    Home Warranty?

Are all home warranty companies a total waste of money? A quick google of any of them I've looked into followed by the words "scam" seem to return less than good reviews. We've had one before, but was never used. It was part of our purchase of the house and provided by the seller.

most warranties whether it be an extended warranty the new car dealer tried to sell you or the warranty the sales guy on your new LCD TV are basically a waste of money, not necessarily a scam, just not needed and most people never use them.

I didn't buy it, not worth it imo regardless of if it's a scam or not. If it's a freebie from the seller, then sure (but don't pay an extra dime on the house because they're offering it).

most new homes come with a home warranty from the builder, anything beyond that is a scam..

Usually a waste of money. Back 5-10 years ago here in GA the buyers agent would put it in the contract for the selling party to 'give' such a warranty to the buyer. What the seller and buyer didn't know was the seller's agent made commission (around $125) off of the seller paying for this warranty. Crooked ass realtors rank up there with crooked ass attorneys in my book.

I guess it depends on the age of the house. My first house was 20yrs old and I bought the warranty for $350. Within six months the hot water heater, dishwasher and stove all stopped working. They were all too old to find replacement parts so I got new ones (low end models) for $50each.

Same thing as Chucko. Older house, except with me, the main water line blew under the slab. The warranty paid for us to stay in a nice hotel while they dig up the house. You know, it is very interesting to see geyser going off in your living room!
