Charges for US woman who ran Chihuahua by car

September 20, 2011

BOULDER, Colorado (AP) - A dog-sitter's shortcut led to criminal charges for a U.S. woman who ran a Chihuahua alongside her car at 10 to 15 mph.

The Daily Camera reports that 29-year-old Joan Renee Zalk faces animal cruelty and felony menacing charges after witnesses confronted her Friday morning for running the pup alongside her Toyota Camry.

The newspaper reports that Zalk told officers the dog, named Cooper, "goes ballistic" if it doesn't walk 3 miles (5 kilometers) a day.

Witnesses called police after seeing the leashed dog struggling to keep up with the car. Zalk reportedly said the dog was fine.

Zalk is free on bond. Cooper was uninjured and was taken to a local shelter. The dog was expected to be released to its owner, who was out of town at the time of the incident.

Amazing. I just reading of my fellow Americans in this manner, it's puts things in perspective and what our soldiers fight for. Im just saying...the dog didnt get hurt. I could understand if the dog actually was injured. was it put in harms way? of course. just driving to the store you could die a million diff ways. im not sympathizing with the wildwoman, but lets not go braiding up any nooses just yet. society as a whole is too fuckin soft and outraged by the dumbest shit imaginable.

The difference being that YOU make a conscious decision as to whether or not to drive, walk on the sidewalk, climb a ladder, any number of things that put you in harms way. This dog was FORCED into harms way. Not only that, it was FORCED into an inordinant amount of harms way.

Your comparison to dogs on treadmills doesn't hold any water either. There aren't any other treadmills driving through your room that could potentially run the dog over. (At least I assume there aren't.)

No, people hate irresponsible pet owners with a passion. Story said the dog was struggling to keep up. Let's consider the fear and terror involved when an animal is being dragged by it's neck by a large strange metal creature.

No nooses are needed, but we need to fine her, charge her with animal abuse, and send her on her way. In the meantime, she completely deserves to be made fun of in the worst way possible for being lazy, inconsiderate, and most of all for having that hair doo.
