Scheduled to speak Thursday at an event honoring former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, 'Army Wives' actress Kim Delaney stood awkwardly at the podium and only spoke a few words before she was escorted away.

CBS’ Philadelphia affiliate reported that Delaney was supposed to read her speech off a teleprompter, but technical difficulties forced her to wing it. Representatives for the National Constitution Center did not immediately respond to ABCNews.com’s requests for comment.
Delaney, 49, has had issues with substance abuse — in 2002, she was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving after she refused to take a breathalyzer test. She’s sought rehab for alcohol addiction twice.

That can't be the reason, can it? Wouldn't a person simply say, "Can we fix the teleprompter?" Step off stage if necessary to ask for the problem to be addressed?

When something goes wrong, you look at the audience and say, I'm sorry my notes are mixed up, or the teleprompter took a crap, (or whatever the mess up is) so please bear with me as I do this off the cuff. People really understand. If these "celebrities" did that, then when things go bad, people don;t have to assume they are bombed on stage.
