D'OH! Homer, Marge, and the rest of America's favorite animated TV family are in jeopardy of cancellation after 23 seasons on the air.
Fox executives say that unless the voice talent can take a 45 percent pay cut, the Simpsons will run to the couch for the last time next spring. The network issued a statement, saying, "We believe this brilliant series can and should continue but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model."
Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer reportedly each make $8 million a season. According to the Daily Beast, the actors offered to take a 30 percent reduction in return for a share of syndication and merchandise revenue.
The Simpsons now averages about 7 million viewers for its new episodes, down from almost 22 million in the early 1990s. (October 5, 2011)

So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
to improve their lives.

Poor guys only get what 5 mil a season now for talking in funny voices, I so feel for them![]()
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I know, right?
Thought, "Geez, FORTY percent?? That's severe." But then the announcer said they're earning EIGHT MILLION per year. Immediately thought that even a FIFTY percent cut would leave them with four freaking million dollars per year!
Five mil per season? Seems pretty generous, especially with viewership down a boatload.
Glad they're back for another two years as DOMS reports!![]()

Not anywhere near as good as the early days. I don't watch much anymore. Still love South Park, though.

Gave up TV almost ten years ago and The Simpsons went with it. Haven't missed an episode of True Blood -- watch that courtesy of some dubbing-to-DVD by the friend of a relative, but The Simpsons and a ton of other shows I'll be able to catch up on in my old(er) age.
