Canadians go to Baghdad as 'human shields'

Canadians go to Baghdad as 'human shields'
    Martin O'Malley, CBC News Online | Dec. 5, 2002

Opposition to a war on Iraq has a long way to go before it rivals the draft-card burnings and demonstrations against the war in Vietnam in the 1960s, but a new anti-war movement is growing muscle. Some Canadians already have left for Iraq to serve as human shields against bomb attacks on Baghdad. More will follow before Christmas.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/features/iraq/anti_war_iraq.html

Looks like people from London too....

LONDON (Jan. 25) - Waving goodbye to families and denouncing "imperialist" warmongering, the first convoy of Western volunteers set out from London on double-decker buses on Saturday to act as "human shields" against any attack on Iraq.

    A few less canadians couldn't hurt. . .

People who "protest" are stupid. Protesters never have a single fucking solution to any problem, only that they don't like the current solution and want to bitch about it.

SHUT UP IF YOU CAN'T HELP ANYTHING!!!

I don't mind the protesting so much, although I agree it's moronic. What annoys me is the hypocricy.

It pisses me off when people who are fortunate enough to live under certain conditions, turn around and protest against them!

Granolas are the worst for this. I had a woman at work stymied when she started going offside about how I was a polluter, etc. I asked her where she lived "In the country." So, I said, you destroyed a marshland or wilderness habitat for your house!, Then I asked her how she got to work? "I drive a compact" So, You drive a car! and I went on and on.

She became very angry, but too bad. It's the same thing with these protesters.

Dero, I think American's frustration with Canada is growing from a sense that as of late, we seem to be contributing very little in terms of military operations and enjoy living under the wing of the American military, but then it appears that every once in a while we peek out from under that wing and say something contrary to the American view. I think it's a matter of, if your gonna live under our protection at least have the courtesy to show some support.

Granted in this particular case there are only a couple Canadians in this protest, along with some Americans, but it still speaks of that hypocritical thinking. I'm sure many Canadians disagree with these protesters, but there are also many Canadians and Americans who agree.

There are also millions of Iraq civilians (or slaves, yes, slaves works well here) who want nothing more than to have Saddam dead.

If I were an enslaved person, and my dictator was killing people for the hell of it, I'd want the big bad ass us county to come get his punk ass out of office.

That's just me, though. I guess slavery is good in some people's eyes.

1st off a few and I mean a few people from Canada and England decide to go to Iraq as sympathizers to a dictatorship regime does not make those countries enemies. As stated above we probably have more Americans against a war then in those countries. Regardless it just doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what countries they are from. Personally I feel we need to complete something we started in 1990 and that is to rid the world of that murderer and terrorist supporter Sadam Insane. (did I spell his name correctly). As stated on the news as I write this,,, Iraq is not complying with the UN deligation in search of weapons. How much of this are we supposed to take???? The USA is the strongest most powerful nation in the world. As I see it we have no other choice here but to Invade that country to show the world that we mean business. We will not tollerate treaty breakers or terrorist. Hussain is testing us. Who the HELL is he to test S#%T!! He is lucky he is alive!! He should be kissing our azzes NOT antagonizing us. You all can say what you wish, but this world will be a better place without him. We need to do it RIGHT this time and kill the SOB. If people from the USA, England, Canada or WHEREEVER, wish to go there and act as human shields,, then so be it. May God be with them. Hopefully when the time of war grows nearer, they will wisen up and realize that they will not stop a war. I'm surprised flights are even going there.

I watched a news story (Fox News) the other day before I left for work. The interviewed this dipshit, (U.S. Citizen) living in the U.K. He fought in the last Gulf War. Now he has several felony warrents out for him for something. The warrents were the reason he left the U.S. to live in the U.K. He was spearheading the big human sheild thing over in the U.K. All he could do is talk trash. That proves the mind set of the protesters. It's not a United States vs Canada or the U.K.........It's Right vs Wrong. Plain and simple. And I Personally don't think that the views of a few Canadians or Brits, are the views of the masses in those countries. Every country has it's political left and right. I know for a fact that the Canadians are fighting in Afganastan right now. Along side US troops. And YES.......the U.S. does appreciate the help from allies.

NOTE: I did not read the article in the above thread. I've got more important things to do.

What I meant by this is, for those few groups of protestors who want to become human shields on Iraq, then good for them. But if we start bombing in the area they're at in Iraq, so long see ya....as far as we know the group is supporting a hostile regime like John Walker.

I was watching the UN inspectors reports this morning, it seems nothing was evident enough to even touch Iraq. I actually started to second guess.....

Max, I would not put any faith in what the inspectors found or did not find. They are there because of political pressure and that's it. Whether they find anything or not, we still hav the problem of Sadam Insane holding a gun to everyones head. And now we have a little prick in N. Korea following suit.

    Sorry, just had to

If they want to be human shields, let them. Let them go knowing the wt of their decision and that it is not advisable. Let them move over there permanently if they idealize that society. But let the bombs fall as they will. It is their decision, though, as MMa pointed, out hypocritical as it is. If they decide to look up @ a 2k lb LGB, then let them do it knowing that they were warned.

I say if they want to be human sheilds - let them. It's not like the US is NOT going to bomb the target (military target) just because they are standing there. I also doubt any life insurance they have will pay off (hope they don't have kids).

As far as Canada, their military is no real big help. It's not big enough. Not like we couldn't take the country if we wanted to (meaning, Canada). That would last, oh....1 or 2 hours, maybe
We could use a few more breweries though

As far as war with Iraq, we need to finish the job. He's had 10 years to disarm, and hasn't done it. Too bad so many countries are being a bunch of crybabies about it.

I'd like the see the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US. It's outlived it's usefullness.

Sickboy and everyone else,,,, We have some awefully good friends here at Ironmanmagazine that are Canadians. I don't think its nice at all to attack Canada as a whole because of a handful of commies. We have our share of sickos right here in the good ole' USA. Have we all forgotten the Vietnam War and all the Commie peace/love Hippies that protested against our Government? My point is people like DERO are Canadian and if I were him I'd be very insulted by all this slander. You all owe him and our other members here an apology for your ignorance.

As far as this statement goes Sickboy: "We need to finish the job. He's had 10 years to disarm, and hasn't done it."
I couldn't have worded it better myself,,, The UN and the USA gave Sadam a second chance to clean up his act by disarming his nation of chemical weapons and such. He has not complied with this treaty and the little he has done to meet with the standards, he did so reluctantly and on his terms. This act alone constitues our right to remove him from his position as Dictatorship by whatever means necessary. It would be nice to do so without a war but if that is what it takes that is what is required. This azz is making us look very bad in the eyes of the world and in these times of terror it is very bad timing. The USA needs to show the world we are not a Country to be F@#ked with.

I'm not sure how a few pinheads (Canadian protesters) have us turned on an entire country but if we're going to start dishing out disrespect let's give it to those countries that have EARNED it; Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, etc. (Although Saudi is finally starting to come around.) Canada, Great Britan and Australia have been the only countries that have TRUELY supported us since 9/11. Way to go folks, your support has not gone unnoticed.

I agree, he's an asshole (saddam)...but there are many assholes in the world (N. Korea come to mind?....or how about Polpot back in the day? ) these are/were situations in which we didn't do anything to the extreme of what we are proposing now. I don't want to sound "typical", but you can't ignore the facts...this is an oil war. the US has been planning ways of protecting the oil fields in Iraq when it invades...check this out:
