Thread: any marines in here? (or any other branches really)

almost all vets will tell you that if we had to do it all over again, we'd all go airforce....it's the branch that's most like a regular 9-5 m-f job.......the rest of the branches are all about hurry up and wait....

Yup, I'm a retired Marine. A 100% disabled retired Marine, that took shrapnel in places you wouldn't want to have hitchhikers...But I'm still here, and I'm not a republican. To all you Jarheads, you vote republican, YOU'RE FOOLS!

How many of those R's. run as Vets, unless your a senile fool like McCain, and that MFer wouldn't even qualify as a Marine! Cause he's soo fuckin stupid.

...I was in the army national guard for 8 years and 2 of them I spent active 1 of them in Afganistian. I made it back in one piece so i wouldn't change a thing. Other then I wish we all would have made it.

...the simple fact that you can post a thread like this and that we can all answer you freely makes me grin though :-)

I really want to become a ranger and one day special forces. Its something ive dreamed of since i was a child. I wore camo with a painted pace and a plastic gun for 99% of the halloweens i can remeber. The more i think about everything in my life the more i want to join. All the marines i know personally loved it tell me if i join i wont regret it. Im worried if i join the army and somehow cant get into rangers that ill be miserable. Not quite sure what to do. Im not much of an airforce guy. Im smart but dont like to fix shit and to be completly honest i hate flying. It doesnt scare me really i just prefer not to do it lol so air force has never really interested me. Marines has ALWAYS stuck out to me since the first commercail i ever saw. Most of my family is army and they all loved it. I even have 2 silver star recipiants in my close family. Im very proud of my familys military history and im looking to add to it. Im just unshure where to turn figured id ask some more people.

thats what i want though. I want to know everyones experiances how they felt about the decision if they would change somehting whether it was not joinign at all joining a differnet branch maybe a different job or for those who never joined and maybe they wish they did. Im just looking for honest answers ive always enjoyed talking to guys who served even if they have nothing but negative things to say. The year or so i spent on a military base was one of the best of my life and ive never felt so proud of my family or the fact im an american b4 in my life.

My boss did navy for 6 years i think and absolutly loved it said thasts the only thing in his life he would do over again at the drop of a dime

Im looking for infantry and eventually to move onto the elite groups such as scout sniper, marine force recon, rangers, special forces and so on. Im not looking to sit in an office or fly planes. I want to be the best of the best. Not skate by under the radar for 4 years just to say i did it.

I just wanna add, I was guilty of being a fool, cause I was 21 at the time!

If I knew then what I know now, I'd say say Fyou GB, 41. You carry out your own evil plans....Which I did, but I fulfilled my contract. As I know now, contracts don't mean shit!

i was airborne infantry, ranger school (11b1p).....hated it day-to-day.....especially since it fucked up my training....i never weight more than 145lbs the entire (yet did 2 enlistments lol).....but, once i got out, i really missed doing all the cool shit, training even, cameraderie, etc....but that was in the 90's......it was a safe world then......it's worth it anymore unless you're looking to die.....because there's no more guarantee that you'll ever have the chance to collect on your college fund or enlistment bonuses with all the tours they're doing now.....enjoy your freedom, because once you've sworn in they own your ass

I love hitting the gym and getting big but this has always been in my mind. I would honestly trad being huge for being special forces or even ranger. I dont want to die but we all go somtimes. I would rather die respected doing somthing i love then and old man wishiing i had atleast gave it a shot. I have never seen myself living past 50 anyway. Honestly this stated got me more excited to join the running from it. The possability of being deplyoed does not bother me. im not gonna sit here and pretend im not scared and dont give 2 fucks about dieng thats not the case its just not something im gonna let detter me from doing this you know what im saying?

Im in it for myself i wanna push harder then i ever thought i would go placec you only hear about do things most poeple wouldnt think about this isnt for anyone but me. The shit theyr selling they can blow me i no im risking my life for no money and no true reason but americas greed but the training and shit all that is my me baby. You one of the only service memebers who have told me this especially a marine. i mean i understand completly where your coming from but i dont agree with it.

Can't catch cant throw. Can't play basketball, cant play soccer dont like lax. cant play golf. i hate baseball, I hatwe school. I work in an office half the time and hate it. The other half i do security for special events and shit and thats fun but not enough. I need to escape the area im in and do something with my life. I want to make my family proud and even more i wanna make myself proud. I wanna look back and say how the fuck did i do that. I came from this and accomplished this. Im the the dumb ass whos going give me the gun and drop me in the desert. I want to kick ass yes but i want the trainer the respect the dicaplin the self pride i want everything thats offered. My whole family is military or police or married to military or police. Its what i was raised around its what we love and its what we do best. and no offense has been taken at all brother i respect ALL view points and opinions good bad or nuetral. Thats why i started this thread i want to hear it all. Im sorry to hear that you are a wounded vet. It sickens me to see wounded vets. My great grandfather whom i was very close to vefore he died is a purple heart recipiant himself, he was shot multiple times in combat in ww2. he never talked about it. im currently in the process of trying to get his medals. I tradgity struck my family and the medals are no longer with us and it kills me. I feel like i was born for it ive never loved, admired, feared or respected as much as the military. nothing has interested me as nearly as much.

I dont feel like i have no options. I have a great job... the pay sucks but i get full benafits garenteed raises every 6 months and i like it its fun and the people are cool. I have a my own car thats paid off. I have a family loves and supports me. Im going to school ive played all those sports. i tried many many other options. Its not that i dont feel like i dont have any other options its just i like this one the best. Beleive me i know what your sayin i understand i agree to an extend. but you cant fight your heart its a loosing battle.

ive been procrstinating long enough. i had a contract infront of me 2 sepertae times and held off. everything happens for a reason. If they give me a contract i want their is no more holding off. its not or never. life isnt fair ive come to accept it. but im gonna make the most of it
