    Arizona for the win.. again

    Original Article

"A state law adopted this year aims to outlaw divisive ethnic studies"

    Good.

There isn't a "Caucasian Studies" class covering all the cool shit we've done. If someone tried, it'd be labeled racist.

"But oh, no! If it's not an ethnic studies class, then it's always about White people, already!", you plaintively wail...because you're a dumb shit.

You're a dumb shit for thinking so due to two reasons:

    1) If one race can do it and another can't, it's racist.

    2) If I went to Mexico, is it my right to demand a Caucasian Studies class since I'm in the minority there? Of course not, because that'd be stupid.

Arizona is the model that all other states should be based on.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Something can only be divisive if you want to be divided.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I completely agree, I think those classes actually further separate different races sometimes.

I also don't agree with having a black history month because if I asked why isn't there a "white history month?" I'd probably be labeled a racist.

Although, I would like to add that I think we should stick with our core learning classes and gym in school and have shit like this in a volunteer or privatized setting outside of the school day. We suck enough at Math and Science to make things like this class generally a waste of time.

And a waste of time they are. It's also not like we have the money to waste on them.

In reality I don't really feel it's a race issue so much as it is the current environment we are in as a people. A moderate, intelligent voice doesn't get any attention, so the assholes on either extreme tend to get their voices heard.

I also believe there is plenty of reason to learn about other cultures but don't see how this needs to be done with specialized classes. When I was in high school I learned about African-American history as well as some Latin history as well, but I didn't have a specific class for it, it was weaved within the curriculum of my general history classes.

This everybody is a victim shit is getting pretty old, though.

Same here. I learned about others races in world cultures and history classes.

Hell, I've learned more about them after I left school doing my own research. I know more about Africa than most black Americans.

I heard that. But they're not going to let the race card that easily. Why give up a free ride where you can be inferior, yet reap the benefits of a successful person?

This was a big buzz last year....Its too bad if the class has created a climate of ethnocentrism. There is nothing wrong with teaching multi cultural studies (I think its a great idea in principal) but if they pervert it into a "kill whitey" context, then it needs to be removed from the curriculum. I had to chuckle at the racist Ben Franklin comment in the article though...in reality most of our founding fathers would be considered raging racists from a modern perspective.

I made a point NOT to buy a house in Tucson school districts though (Vail is my current city of residence)...Tucson Unified School District is horrid. TUSD's reputation deterred me from buying home in Tucson city district. If they teach that program in Vail districts, something tells me it would be taught in proper spirit of education.

Just teach fucking history and leave out the white guilt/evil America bullshit. If I want my kids to know more about Hispanic-American culture, I'll just make them watch Cops every night.

White history is most of American-History and European History. The rest is under World History and 20th century American History. Why they have to segregate Black History I Don't know I think guys like George Washinton Carver and Martin Luther King can stand just fine along side other great Americans. In my mind setting them in their own history is an insult to their merits....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

    MLK isn't an American.

What? You don't like that? It's not my idea. He's not American, he's African-American. Blacks aren't regular Americans...because they've said so.

That was a lot of cabbage in those days. I can't imagine anyone turning down what was essentially a $1 million salary to work for a teacher's salary.

Yea, and that's a stupid comment, and gross over-generalization.

PLENTY of people stretch their dollars, save money, don't buy nonsense.....

How can you say 300 million + americans overspend?

Most people I know do not do that.

Then again I'm from the south where people make use of what they got.

fact is that people are spending just as foolishly today as they were 5, 10, 20 years ago.....using credit and spending too much of our disposable income (nobody really saves anymore because they rely too much on pensions and 401k instead)......
