I'm a liberal leaning lefty, and I support gun rights. And, I'm also not afraid to say that islam is a major problem for the world. Maybe I'm a bit of a hybrid.

Not saying that at all. Just saying that it's wrong to "punish" those who either
    A) were lucky enough to have better opportunity.
    B) were smarter and had a better idea.
    C) worked harder and was more successful.

I work very hard for what little I have. Those who think I should pay more because I have a little more are wrong. If they got their way, they would be rewarded for doing less and I'm punished for missing time with my family, working holidays, working 80 to 96 hours a week, etc... how is that right? And by the same token, how is it right for me to say someone else should be punished by higher taxes for being smarter, grabbing a better opportunity, being born into better circumstances, or having a better idea than me?

I don't disagree with any of this. But, I would add that many people/corporations are wealthy because they exploit people. Wealthy corporations used to pay a living wage and benefits.

part of the reason why the middle class in the US is shrinking the fastest across the OECD (while our GDP has increased the most) is due to the loss of tax progressiveness since the 80's. as income inequality has increased the tax code has become less progressive, it's ass backwards. large firms are shifting more of the tax burden (payroll tax is regressive on workers) onto the employees especially and healthcare costs. all of these things are major factors as to why large firms in the US are more profitable than their counterparts in other country's it has nothing at all to do with them being better.

inflation is also understated by the CPI which has been manipulated since the days of Nixon.

most American's are not very good at math and have little knowledge at all about economics, taxes on wages and capital and far too many stuck on stupid labels (capitalism, socialism etc.). less inequality not only increases real GDP growth but it also makes for an overall more stable economy, which means less bubble/burst cycles and greater prosperity for everyone. the more American's that can truly afford home ownership via the income and less on debt (via the opening up of credit markets via legislation by lobbyists) the more wealth home ownership can create in the future.

agreed. My point is that too many pc liberals are afraid to say that islam represents the biggest problem for fear of being called a bigot. I, for one have no problem being a bigot against all religions.

Good point, but they do control all the oil. It did only take about 2 weeks for us to topple saddam hussein though. There wasn't much of a danger to us there.
