Actually I did read it. And, I must say that you have presented some info that compels me to retract the term "despised." I was wrong. Many of them don't seem to despise christianity, that term is too strong. But, they don't always paint it in a very good light either, and it seems that there is some contradictions in their opinion of christianity.

Yes both of these to seem to show distaste for religion in at least some aspects. Both seem to be addressing pending legislation and Madison is clearly against anything that would give political power to religious groups. The three quotes you posted from these two sources seem to be aimed at religion's role in government. He may have intended to express a general distaste for religion in the letter to Bradford. I don't think that's the case in the Memorial and Remonstrance though. There are parts that would contradict that notion...

It seems that he had some contradicting views about it. Which I think most people do, even though they may not realize it.

people forget that some of the earliest settlers to the new world from europe (namely england) were fleeing religious prosecution from the church of England. christianity has many different flavors.

My flavor of religion is whole wheat w marinara sauce.

Israel is the chosen people because they are prideful. It was a test that God told them they were the chosen people. A test that they did not pass. There is no "chosen" people. All people are out of the one creator therefore God does not love one group of people more than another.

The US needs to take this same stance. We will not back them up anymore. We need to cut overseas spending and that includes handouts to all nation's. We have to stop nation building as well.

Not true! God loves pirates the most. He even designated a day as "talk like A pirate day.". He also loves beer and strippers. Satan likes stale beer and strippers w std's.
