The problems are not caused by religions. It is caused by people who misunderstood/misinterpreted their religions.

Tell me how someone could interpret this as anything other than a direct order to kill homosexuals. The misinterpretation myth is just a cop out.

And, I'm sure a christian will chime in and say, "well christ changed all of that." But, for the other billions of non-christians, these orders still remain unchanged.

I don't think atheists are offended by crosses, probably more annoyed that Christian symbols are erected on public land that is supposed to be secular. It's a way of making sure that this doesn't become a Christian ran country, which is also exactly what the founding fathers intended to prevent.

American's are exposed to a big web of lies from the moment they are born in this country and that surely is one of them. many people fled Europe in the 17th century to the US to escape religious prosecution. "God" in early US text and laws is used to define whatever higher power a person chooses to have faith in, not necessarily the Judeo-Christian higher power.
