    AVG and MS Office Question

Just got a new laptop so i'm setting it up. The guy at bestbuy asked if i wanted the geek squad, MS Office and Norton Anti-virus included in my package. I said no to all.

I installed the basic package for AVG, however according to this link AVG Free | Best Free Antivirus Software | Download AVG, it recommends purchasing the advanced protection package for $50. Is it worth it?

Also, is there any way i can get MS Office on here? I still have my old laptop with me and has MS Office so i was wondering if there is a way to transfer it over. I think it's ridiculous to have to pay $99 for MS Office when i already have it on my old laptop.

    Hell no.

Get rid of AVG. It used to be good, but not it's as bloated as McAfee and Norton. Get Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free for home use and doesn't nag you for anything. It's also pretty lean and good at its job.

Another thing to do to avoid viruses, get Firefox and install the Adblock Plus add-on. It'll block 99.9% of all advertisements. A lot of viruses are coming from advertising these days.

To transfer office, you have to get your current key and a copy of the program.

    That should get you going.

EXACTLY what DOMS said right here. Use Microsoft Security Essentials, it's better than AVG nowadays. The rest of his advice is also excellent.
