The war has ended, but the occupation hasn't. There will always be a contingent in Iraq, just like every place else we've ever waged war.
Besides, someone has to protect our newly constructed embassy over there.

agreed its far form over and never will be , this jus another stunt by GOP to save face before election time .they are down sizing there is no doubt but its far far from over. the timeline that GWB used was the same one recommended by Congress. the troops may be leaving but there are more contractors than troops in Iraq at this point. the private security firms will be there for some time I imagine, along with the regulars in the cia. whatever government is in place will not last long. What has really been accomplished? Democracy? Iraqi freedom? Iraqi liberation? Saddam is dead, but he was never a threat in the first place.
