I forget what the exact percentage was, but how many of Americans actually pay taxes? I know that the Treasury brings in just shy of 1 trillion/year in revenue, but not many Americans actually pay taxes. Sad.

the class warfare started in the 80's when the US tax code was made overall less progressive as the top rates where lowered on federal taxes. taxes at the state level and below are all naturally regressive, this made the overall US tax code only slightly progressive. a progressive tax code is what makes the middle class in any country with a market economy..this is all basic econ and US economic history, once again you don't know jack only what tv tells you.
and of course if they raised rates on top earners it wouldn't pay off that debt the 2010 wage stats from the SSA show the total earnings from the US at just over 6T a year with 25% of that going to the top 1%. this couldn't have been why a petition with over 600 signatures of economists were collected in the early 2000's stating that the Bush tax cuts would do exactly what they have done, caused deficits so high for so long it would cause the inevitable end to the Big 3. exactly what the far right has hoped to do since the new deal reforms were enacted in the 30's.
since 1980 none of the supply-side tax cuts have ever been matched with spending reductions, nor have they ever created any jobs or spurred innovation. all of the data shows that they have actually increased the amounts of jobs lost just like the tax holiday in 2004 which allowed US MNE"s to bring foreign earnings back into the US. those monies went to shareholders and stock buybacks and many Americans lost their jobs.
over 1T a year goes out to large corps in the US in subsidies and tax giveaways which is 2x the amount spent on entitlements, and this is according to Cato. US large firms and MNE's pay the lowest amounts of taxes in the OECD as the effective tax rate is only 2% of GDP which equates to far less than the stated rate of 35% that the bitch and moan about but don't pay anyway..
large US firms using off-shore tax shelters costs the US about 1T in lost revenue every decade, but the Tax Haven Act can never make it out of committee thanks to Grover Norqust and his no tax increase pledge which all goes back to the neo-cons wanted to end the bring 3.
the sad part is that people are so stupid. if anybody ever bothered to read the OECD guidelines for multinationals you would see that they only need to provide the same pay and benefits as the host country. if the country doesn't provide healthcare for it's citizens then neither do the MNE's, get the host country to lower it's wage policy's and the large firms follow...
anybody that thinks cutting entitlements will make things better is straight up retarded....

sad that you believe everything thing the tv tells you. those that don't pay federal taxes pay plenty at the state level. the US has the highest amount of low paid workers in the OECD at 25% of the labor force according to all the reports from the ILO and OECD. that surely has to have a positive effect on tax revenues...
the US federal minimum wage due to inflation only has the same spending power as that of wages earned in 1955.

The president can not levy a fine or penalty on anyone or anything.
Many large corporations get huge subsidies even though they are already profitable.

Shame, CBS was the place to get your news.
Every now and then I pick the post up when it's laying around and I just shake my head at how partisan they are when it comes to politics.
As far as the local news they are horrendous, always making false accusations and mistakes.

There is one Republican that FOX doesn't support that I know of and that's RON PAUL.

If I had to pick one news source as being the worst, it's FOX. Good god, what a piece of shit. They literally make shit up.
I tried watching it a few months back. When I turned it off, becuase I couldn't take any more, I felt like I needed a shower to wash the sludge off my mind. That shit is poison.

They do have sports and some of the shows are decent but that's it.
