NYT: Obama Seeks “Closer Ties” With Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, Stunning Reversal Of Longtime U.S. Policy at Pat Dollard
'stunning reversal of longtime U.S. Policy'
I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists?
Who else thinks this country is finished if he gets reelected?
This list is long but distinguished, like all the corporate contributions that make him 100% bought and sold to some fucked up ideal.
We are so fucked if there is a terrorist attack on US soil or one of our bases, he will try to coddle to them instead of blowing them the fuck up for what they did.
Remember the Fort Hood shooting in TX? That was domestic terrorism that was carried about my a MUSLIM. The Obama administration classified it as 'work place violenence.' Also, don't forget that we can't use the word terrorism or terrorist in homeland security docs. We have to say 'foreign fighters.'

So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
to improve their lives.

Muslim Brotherhood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Brotherhood's stated goal is to instill the Qur'an and Sunnah as the "sole reference point for ...ordering the life of the Muslim family, individual, community ... and state".[5] Since its inception in 1928 the movement has officially opposed violent means to achieve its goals.[6][7] There have been breakaway groups from the movement, and it has been criticized by al-Qaeda for its support for democratic elections rather than armed jihad
Maybe it's stupid perceptions like this that causes much of the rest of the world to hate the U.S.A
The Muslim Brotherhood is only banned in one county (Russia) and the reasons are completely suspect. They have never been considered a Terrorist organization and have always opposed violence
If you stop and think; what Obama is doing is quite genius (despite the fact that I don't like him much either). The West is not going to make the Muslim world dissapear, nor should we. There are significantly more extremist organizations (not saying they are) which pose a real threat. If the U.S were to befriend them, it would open up a whole new paradigm in U.S. Arab relations. It could crush terrorism to actually have a serious Muslim alliance.
The Muslim Brotherhood is not much different than U.S. Christian evangelicals. Switch religions and you pretty well have the same thing...
The Muslim Brotherhood is going to grow significanly in the Arab world due to the Arab spring. They have been democratic since 1928. If Obama does not reach out to them, the Salafis' Al-Nour party (very extremist) could grow significantly in power and then we will have a problem with democracy in the Arab world, we will also lose Egypt as a friend.
Do yourself and the people who know you a favor. Read about the subject matter for more than 5 minutes before you insight other people to think the way you do.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
Obama has his head up his ass on more than 1 subject. Everyone has their opinions. Mine is he won't see another term. But I was wrong the 1st time.
Really??? Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood has attacked the U.S.???
You are so fucked if you do not get some allies in the region, this kinda seems like the step in the right direction when you consider the alternatives, don't you think? No 86 that, you see all Muslims as terrorists, you should build a bomb shelter, you have no chance..

I know you are being cynical, but for arguments sake; let's say Iran does become nuclear, which I believe they will; the U.S. will adopt a North Korea foreign policy and do absolutely jack shit, except to kiss ass.
Now if the U.S. were to become friends with a large, well organized democratic muslim organization, it would likely take only 10 years for the entire region to fall from within. Syriah is already at the point of no return and when that government is replaced, the pendulum will have swung significantly. It will be Syriah, Saudi Arabia and Turkey who will takeout Iran, if Iran does not fall by itself...
Or we can just let Iran nuke the region and support the growth of extremist groups in the meantime, a world war will brake out which will cause the U.S. to go bankrupt. I will finally be able to afford beach front property in Malibu; fuck I love Malibu!!
Sun Tzu should be required reading for every U.S. elected official. What a clusterfuck!!
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
In regards to the first highlighted statement, I agree. Under our current U.S. President, I do believe that he'll continue to kiss ass and do absolutely nothing. We have a reactive president, not a proactive president.
Secondly, I don't believe that it's possible to have a democratic muslim government. That's an oxymoron. They don't want a democratic government. The muslims want a government that is governed by sharia law. Far from a democratic government. How can the U.S. successfully negotiate with a group of ppl who want to rule by the extreme set of rules known as sharia law?

What do you mean "let"? Once Iran gets the bomb, they'll start pushing themselves on other Arab countries until a war breaks out. In the end, they'll like have to nuke. Or, more likely, they'll feel that they're "even" with Israel and attack them. Again, it'll end in nukes.
I'm not talking about the USA interfering with the Middle East. I'm talking about not getting involved and letting it run its course.
The USA will "be nice" to all the "bad governments" in the Middle East and they will fall? We must be talking about two different Middle Easts.
I'm talking about the one filled with repressive, 13th century-like, civilizations known for killing each other like it's a sport, and filled with one extremist group waiting to take over from another extremist group. And you're talking about the one filled with rainbows and unicorns.
A world war? With the countries in the Middle East?
This I agree with.

You are rightI'm so ashamed
Despite the fact that we are often ranked No.1 city in the world to live in and never out of the top 5 and despite all the wealth and how great my life is driving the sea to sky HWY in my CLK55 AMG convertible most days, we are not tough. I will immediately cycle 2gms of test each week and lift lots of heavy stuff. I will become tough!!!

Seriously Doms, you've got to read into it more. Iran raising in power and becoming nuclear, would become a serious threat to Saudi Arabia, the number 1 producer of oil in the world. Of course I don't think Iran will be able to do much with one or 2 nukes considering Israel would bomb them into oblivion. The sooner Syriah is free of its current regime, the sooner Iran will become the new spotlight. Syriah and Turkey will support the fall of Iran, but this will also destablize the region like never seen before. Oil will dry up in the middle east and the entire western world economies will crumble. Western governments will be forced to get involved; if not right away, crazed right winged politicians will come to power (elected by the people) in order to protect energy resources and economic well being. One thing will lead to another and world war will ensue. Too many political scientists have theorized that the middle east would be the catalyst for another world war.
Let's become friends with the new democratic nations and support efforts to stablize the region. Letting it work itself out will make the current financial crisis look like a joke...

What do ye naysayers suggest we do thrust ourselves into yet another pointless war? Distance ourselves so we have no clue of what is going on?
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer seems to be what the current administration is doing....

When the Middle East becomes a smoking crater, there will be so many positives it'll count as an epic win for the world.
- Between 200 to 350 million people will die. Helping with over-population.
- Between 200 to 350 million Arabs will die. Helping with the overall civility of the world.
- The rest of the world will be forced to adopt non-carbon based energy sources. Thus reducing carbon emissions, making the world cleaner.
The West won't crumble, we'll adapt. We have the resources to do so.
The adoption of alternative energies will be easier for the USA and Russiaa, and to a lesser extent, Canada and Mexico. because they have the own oil resources.
Of course, it'll suck for a lot of other countries.
New democratic nations? In the Middle East?At best, I'll say we have to wait to see how democratic they really are.

Wishful thinking?
The reversal also reflects the administration’s growing acceptance of the Brotherhood’s repeated assurances that its lawmakers want to build a modern democracy that will respect individual freedoms, free markets and international commitments, including Egypt’s treaty with Israel.

it's called diplomacy...you reach out and speak with whatever the ruling party is in a country regardless of the political differences, this is how adults act.
and remember that GWB hosted Taliban representatives at the White House in 2000 before things went south with the pipeline negotiations through Afghanistan. coincidentally several years later, US forces invaded it and now it's being built with US multinationals with contracts to assist.
you guys take this stuff personally, but you have to realize to world leaders it's just business. US top officials have been paling around with various murderous dictators from all over the globe for almost 60 years. the differences between them and a "terrorist" from the middle east is the current date and the new word of the century is "terror" and during the cold war it was "communism". it's the same bullshit repackaged and date stamped
with something else to fear.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Any destabilization in the Middle East means higher oil prices and that means more business for Alternative Energy and thus more money for me. Also gets PV closer to grid parity especially here where 78% of our power is oil.... Also everytime we get involved the ones we are supporting turn around and bite the hand thats helping. So yeah I say leave them to themselves and invest time and money in curing our addiction to the only commodity they have....
