Rick Perry: Let’s Put Troops Back In Iraq (VIDEO) | TPM2012

Rick Perry established a new gold standard for hawkish foreign policy at Saturday night’s GOP debate in New Hampshire. Not only is he mad President Obama withdrew US forces, he wants to put them back on the ground there immediately.

“I would send troops back into Iraq,” Rick Perry told a New Hampshire audience at Saturday night’s GOP debate, warning that without yet another military operation in Iraq it would fall under the influence of neighboring Iran.

“I think it’s a huge error for us,” he said. “We’re going to see Iran in my opinion, move back in at literally the speed of light. They’re going to move back in. And all of the work we’ve done — every young man that has lost his life in that country will have been for nothing. Because we’ve got a president that does not understand what’s going on in that region.”

US forces were withdrawn at the request of the Iraqi government, who signed an agreement with the Bush administration in 2008 legally requiring them to leave by the end of this year. Perry insisted that Obama could have renegotiated the deal to keep troops there.

To accomplish what?? Unfinished business? Well then, let's go back to Vietnam and finish that mess.

No, we need to get the hell out of the Middle East and let nature takes its course.

about another group that actually does something

That's why we are in such a huge budget deficit. We elect these morons and they spend like the fools they are and blame everything but themselves.

Phuqhead, where was all this speak of caveats leading up to the invasion.

If you really honestly believe it's vital to go back into Iraq, take your ass and the people that follow your foolhardy self back there. And fight your own perpetual money making wars, dope.

We don't elect jack shit. The people behind the money pay for two people and then let us pick the one we'd feel more comfortable taking in the ass from.

many sociopaths crave power and the US is full of them. we also have the highest rate of bi-polar disorder which effects 4% of the US population, which is double every other country in the world with less than half being under treatment. overall mental health in the US blows

What pisses me off the most is that we went to war based on fabricated intelligence when people in the CIA told the Bush Administration not to go. He was an idiot, made some bonehead decisions and people died. He is definitely turning out to be a serious black mark on the GOP as a whole.

“I would send troops back into Iraq,” Rick Perry told a New Hampshire audience at Saturday night’s GOP debate, warning that without yet another military operation in Iraq it would fall under the influence of neighboring Iran.
When the Sunni Baathist party was overthrown it was common knowledge that Iran would gain influence.

Under Perry's logic then, US troops should remain in Iraq indefinitely.

And the US troops are not involved in any alliances, deals, or interaction by the Iraqi government and Iran, nor any other nation.

Once again, Perry has revealed how ignorant he is.

3 years after the election, 10 years since the beginning of the war(s); STILL blaming Bush.

On a seperate note, I'm as conservative as they come and Rick Perry iced his campaign with the recent remarks about putting troops back in Iraq. Just plain moronic.

If that's what he believes, it seems like he should at least be smart enough to lie. I love the rationale that if the puppet govt there collapses, 4,000 soldiers will have died for nothing. Does that mean that we need to stay till another 4,000 die? I reckon that since 58,000 soldiers died in Vietnam, we should go back and finish the job. The Confederacy also needs to finish the job since so many southern americans died for nothing.

I agree, I was once a handsome teen but then I met Foreman 6 years ago in prison.
He made was nice to me and all, he took me under his wing...brought me cigarettes, protected me till one day while in the shower he asked me if he can wash my back since he noticed I had trouble in that particular area.
I thought to myself this Foreman is a great guy till i dropped the soap.
He sent his weapon of mass destruction up my tight ass till I bled.
Needless to say I now was peeing sitting down. I was his bitch.
Well he left prison and sure enough he sold me to Leroy Lam for a back of cigarettes.
Leroy lam took over the anal raping after that by then I grew tits and had a prettier face.
I forgave and forgot the anal and oral Foreman. That was long ago and time heals all wounds.

Out of curiosity, at what point does/will Barack accept responsibility for his presidency? To the best of my knowledge, I don't think he, or anyone in his administration has taken responsibility for anything.

Jobs/Economy/Fast & Furious/Green Jobs Push, etc. No responsibility, none. Eric Holder even played the race card during his last congressional hearing.

I guess we can all just sum it up as 'those jobs weren't as shovel ready as we thought' (chuckle, chuckle) Or, 'we didn't realize just how truly bad Bush screwed up the economy, and it's gonna take more than 1 term to fix things.'

All in all he hasn't fixed anything as far as I can tell.
You hear there were more jobs created but I haven't noticed anything.

Question for all to the right, once he's gone and you get a republican in office and things get better who gets the credit?

Yep! You're right! What the news media doesn't report is the amount of jobs that have just been dissolved and aren't even available anymore. Hundreds of Thousands. With the Obama relection campaign in full-swing, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to ppl that all of a sudden the "economy is improving."

there is no quick fix for an economy like the US which has structural problems going back for decades.

it normally takes 5 years after a banking collapse for an economy to begin to recover. Americans took this for just "another" recession which it surely was not, no other recession has caused so much home wealth to be lost which was between 6-10T. some lost as much as 50% of their total wealth while the other recessions from '84 to 2007 that was no more than 3-4% of the home wealth lost. this effects consumption which has been fueled not by real income growth but by borrowing since the 80's.

then add in austerity measures to reduce fiscal stimulus while unemployment was still high makes the recession recovery deeper and longer. this is exactly what Hoover did during the Great Depression and was told not to do but the GOP controlled House demanded it and the same thing has happened once again. US corps are not investing so there is no crowding out. US corps have contracted capital spending which is why firms in the US have seen profits increase by 10% during the recession recovery while their foreign counterparts have seen losses of the same. Large firms in the US are also not hiring because the cost of health benefits are increasing so rapidly.

US recession recovery history shows that small businesses usually account for 70% of the net job gains in recession recovery but banks are not lending, all this info is on the SBA website.

The tools available to the fed gov for recession recover are not many. there is fiscal stimulus in the form of extended un-employment benefits and tax incentives to businesses, that's it. tax cuts (corporate tax rate) for large firms and on capital do not and have not created any jobs in US history, all the data shows they actually increase job losses with the latest example being the tax holiday in 2004.

"U.S. taxpayers provided a huge subsidy to corporations that destroyed jobs. Following a tax holiday on repatriated foreign earnings in 2004, 58 corporations that benefitted from the holiday slashed a total of nearly 600,000 jobs. These 58 giant corporations accounted for nearly 70 percent of
the total repatriated funds and collectively saved an estimated $64 billion from what they otherwise would have owed in taxes."

it was his economic policies that manufactured a housing boom that wasn't lead by real income growth but by false prosperity by banking deregulation and the securitization of residential mortgages, a new practice. allowing massive amounts of FDI into the US to pump up housing to such unrealistic prices is not what any country should do if it cares anything about it's citizens.

you were in the business if anybody you should know that home values are supposed to increase with real income growth and the declining costs of lending (interest rates).

I realize that. I just think Alan Greenspan's policy of keeping the fed funds rate artificially low for so many years was probably the biggest culprit. The deregulation, of course, had been going on since the Reagan years. The banks themselves also basically threw all common sense underwritting standards out the window, and were loaning for speculative real estate projects that were entirely dependent on the market staying strong, with little guarantor support. Of course, with Fannie & Freddie guaranteeing to buy up the mortgage loans, the banks had basically nothing to lose when it came to loaning money to people who couldn't afford it. There's pretty much endless blame to go around.

rates didn't start falling until '01 to '05 when the Fed started to increase them but it was too late. the fed has had a hand in just about every major economic problem in the US since it's inception but it's primary purpose has always been to prevent another stock crash which it this time with QE.

I never did any sub-prime loans only FHA/VA streamlines and Alt-A or higher. but I used to tell people and my friends to stay away from them all the time and that ARM's where originally marketed for those with money, that product was never offered to sup-prime lenders before. their month expenses just can't handle drastic rate increases, the income just isn't there. and no doc-loans and using stated income never, ever should have been legal to begin with.
