do you precisely count your rest between sets?

Or just roughly guesstimate, go when you feel ready to lift maximum weight? (probably shorter rests between early sets, and more rest between later sets)

not really. I definetly move at a much faster clip when using loads less than 80% of the 1RM. when i'm training heavy I rest until a catch my breath and load the bar which is usually a good 3-5 min between sets.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Not at all. I rest up enough to catch my breath and feel ready. Usually between 30 and 90 seconds would be my guess. That's my guess because I can usually finish all three to five sets in the same time it takes someone else nearby to do two sets.

Nope. I lift when I feel ready. Some days are better than others though.

I don't count every second, but I do watch my watch or the clock on the wall is going very heavy.

Yes... out loud. I yell them red-faced then do my sets very quietly.

PS I sometimes substitute cussing for numbers.

If I'm doing circuit/conditioning training, then yes, as decreasing rest intervals over time is part of the progression.

If I'm just strength training, then not really. I keep a general eye on things, I try to rest around 3 minutes between sets.

Never been that anal about the rest period between sets. On light days, simply feeling recovered. On heavy days, when the I'm gonna puke feeling goes away.

Fuck no, I just wing it. The only time I ever kept track was when I did the 10x10 workout.

Yes, I keep track of every variable. I also write it down. Sometimes the same weight in less amount of time is the only improvement gravity is willing to offer me.

I'm currently cutting and using German Body Compositioning. Essentially, you have timed rest periods to build a sprint workout in 35 minutes, and this requires a timer. Otherwise, I guesstimate in my offseason or powerlifting.
I will say this; using that timer in this workout makes a great difference in how my training goes. So much more intense and focused. I may use it after my contest prep is over.

    Damn troll!

The majority have stated this, and I agree.. I just go back at it when I am ready. Sometimes its 15 sec, sometimes its a minute. One thing that pisses me off is having to redo the whole setup when I change lifts, since Iuse a home gym - sometimes I wish I could just go right at it without the switching time.

Ok seriously on topic, I do find that it helps sometimes to look at the clock to make sure at least a certain amount of time has passed because I tend to want to rush to the next set before my body's really ready.

Best way to know you're ready to go again is when your heart rate has gone back to a more manageable pace.

    Exactly.

Or in my case, when I re-gain consciousness.

On a serious note (enjoy the moment, for they are few) I think people take entirely too long between sets. I'm usually in and out of the gym (and consciousness) within thirty to forty-five minutes tops. I don't get these cats who spend two hours in the gym.
