I am not knocking MLK in any way he was brilliant, I just fail to why we gave him his own observed holiday?

If you're asking why it exists, it's there because of political correctness. MLK did do good, but his position in US history is vastly overrated.
But that was the big trend starting in the 80s. The aim was to make the accomplishments of minorities and woman seem more important, while downplaying the accomplishment of white males.
It was done in the belief that since everyone is equal, that all accomplishments must therefore have been done equally by race and gender. Even though that's simply not the case.
To put it simply, the PC crowd felt there needed to be a black holiday.So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
to improve their lives.
