    People with pets

I adopted a puppy a little over a week ago. I had a bunch of her shots done (what she can have at this age), and had everything checked out. She's healthy as can be right now but i'm looking at down the road. Shes a mix breed, lab and something else. She's quite small, with small legs, feet, and head. So i'm thinking she's mixed with a smaller breed. Either way, I have been doing some reading on pet insurance. I was wondering if anyone has experience with it. I understand it won't cover preventative stuff, but that's usually the cheap part anyways. It's the accidents, sickness, and such that i'm worried about $ wise (which the insurance says it'll cover). Anyone have any experience?

I looked up trupanion and from what I could gather, it didn't cover checkups, shots, etc (preventative). What insurance do you have? I figure if it's worth while, it'll be smart to do it asap while she's young. (8 weeks!)

We thought about it for our dogs. The upshot is read it very carefully. Most routine stuff is not covered. It is great if the dog gets hurt by accident or some other unforeseen stuff. We figured that we have a deep enough bank account to cover anything if it happens.

I have a German Shepherd and I did a lot of research into pet insurance. Honestly, it's a rip off. If your dog every has health issues, vet procedures and medicine are fairly decent (price wise) I just had he entire yearly checkup, blood work, shots, nails clipped and 6 months of heart guard for 120.00.

The insurance just isn't worth it.

Well just cuz they be alright now doesn't mean a genetic defect won't pop up when they get older..its true my dog it happen .healthy still was but it had a joint problem at age 6...did have it before but research is always good before getting a certain type of dog mutt are the most likely to Not have health issues..pure breeds are more likely to have them but not all the time

True, I looked at the ASPCA insurance and it was still outrageous what you had to pay out of pocket. I'm sure there are various companies that may hook you up with a decent deal.

It's just hard for me to justify paying more per month for my pet's health insurance than my own. hahaha
