I love the SMS guys! They are so funny. We have a couple at my gym but one guy sticks out above the rest. He looks like a pretty big guy...225 or so. Anyway this guy always gives me these looks when I am benching, shrugging, deadlifting, etc. Now, I'm not the strongest guy in the world but I think I'm about average...315 on bench for 8-10 reps, 405 on dead for 6-10 reps, and about two months ago I got 495 once on squats. I weigh about 255 so like I said no spectacular feats by any means. Then this guy comes into the gym and does 405 on the smith bench for reps...quarter reps. I'm talking maybe coming an inch or two down. Now he does this with all his main exercises except shrugs. He actually does full reps...in the smith machine. Now when he comes out of there to do dumbbell press or what ever the weights are not big at all. I guess I wouldn't care so much if he didn't always give me that "I'm stronger than you look" when I do my exercises. Anyway...any other smith machine superstar stories?
Can a mod move my post please. I realized I wanted it in the training section not open chat. If it is to big of a hassle, then it is my idiot fault. Sorry guys
that machine is just for guys to be able to use more weight. There are only a few exercises that it should actually be used for, and even those can be done better without it.
Arnold fucks old fat mexican ladies too, but that doesn't mean we should too.
I use a smith machine regularly. Im No power lifter nor do i care what someone watches thinks. Maybe instead of worrying about the smith machine guy you should stfu and workout. Just saying if your a gym rat and he looks good who says your not the one doing it wrong?

I'm curious why you use the smith machine instead of db's or bb's.
My point is that if you're using it so you can boast about how much weight you can put up, then you're a douche and don't really get credit for that weight.
Lol bro ive been lifting forever and believe every piece of equipment in the gym can help you build a better physique. You call me a douche i dont even know you! After years of ponding your joints with free weights bb and db which i use daily it can give you the oppertunity to ease the pain on the stabilizers. Like i said i dont lift for numbers. I could care less what you think of the smith machine and im sure your not that big anyway. All my point is is that it s a tool use it. Like i said you calling me a douche is off side as i have never spoken to you before so keep your comment s to your self.

whoa! I wasn't calling you a douche, I was calling guys who boast about numbers on a smith machine. I was talking about the guy who the op was talking about. No need to argue.
I was just asking why you would use the smith machine, and you gave a good reason; to ease pain.
I actually use the smith machine for select exercises too, I just don't like the guys that the op was referring to. The guys who walk around with their arms and chest stuck out, trying to be a badass. Being humble is a good quality.
Lol sorry im touchy when it comes to training lol! I agree there are idiots. Some guys train different tho. Watch footage of Bertil Fox he had a jaw dropping physique but his form was horrific. Same with Levrone he used sloppy form and momentum but you cant argue with results. I quit critiqueing others a long time ago, i value gym time so other people are just in my way lol!

No worries, I reread my comment and it did seem like I was calling you a douche. Which I wasn't.
I agree, if you put the work in, even with bad form, you're going to get results. My annoyance is with the meathead showoffs.
I think your physique and/or your lifts are all you need to impress. No need to flex in the mirror at the gym or walk around like you own the place. (although I've been known to flex in the mirror at home lol).
And, you're right, I'm not as big or as strong as a lot of guys on here, but I've never wanted to be the biggest guy in the gym. Just want to look good. I also climb mountains which requires shitloads of cardio which gets in the way of strength training. Two completely different worlds.

I have a Smithmachine at the house and love it at the gym i don't touch them so i like both numbers to me arn't shit either i just want to look good but can't complain when strength goes up
Since both my shoulders are screwed up from prior shoulder injury/dislocation...I like using the smith for flat and incline bench...it helps to isolate my movements
The Smith is another piece of equipment that can help in training especially if no spotter is available but it should not be relied on solely. It's a tool just like free weights, bars, other machines etc.

Well put. My main reason for using it on close grip after a chest workout.

GOT A QUESTION, DON'T HESITATE TO PM ME
Listen guys...I am not downing the smith machine. It has it's place in any good training routine. Hell, I use it from time to time. I am talking about a guy who uses it for almost everything. And D-lats, telling my to stfu and train? I have probably been training longer then you have(almost 17 years). You don't know me bro so how can you come off saying something like that. I was just sharing my story. If a dude watched you bench all the time and scoffed at you...that wouldn't piss you off? But you are right... he is a decent size, so maybe he is doing someting right. Maybe I should swallow my pride and see if he wants a training partner.
Arnold on a.......Smith machine. If it was good enough for him evry so often, it's good enough for me occasionally.
I reject your deposit.
