    I prefer Newt over Romney.

But saying that 1. Newt will win the GOP nomination and 2. beat Obama is throwing all of your eggs in one basket.

I wouldn't do that just yet.

Florida is next on Jan. 31. FL is a different ball of wax entirely from South Carolina.

    South Carolina has unique demographics.

Romney has a double-digit lead of Newt in FL, but these numbers can shift. We'll see how and where the money is spent in Florida.
It's an accurate statement that our current spending will not be increasing the debt We've stopped spending money that we don't have.

with what his non-facts and opinion? .....

more supply-side tax cuts and deregulation will surely fix the economy...the only tools the GOP has used in the past 40 years. the same tools that have destroyed the middle class

And I should add that I won't be voting for Newt.

As LAM states many of Gingrich's policies are an extension of GWB.

Newt also made 2 foolish statements: he said he would have Palin as VP, and John Bolton as Secretary of State.

Whether Gingrich was catering to certain demographics or serious, not a good thing to say, IMO.

(I'll be voting for Ron Paul, as usual, as a protest vote.)

He won't get the republican nomination. Do you think he'll get on the ballot as an independent?

It's always worth paying attention to S. Carolina; they've picked the Republican nominee since 1980...we'll see.

Gov. Christie: Newt Gingrich ‘Has Been An Embarrassment To The Party’

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared on Meet the Press today to do damage control for Mitt Romney and to explain why Newt Gingrich would not be an ideal Republican nominee despite his strong victory in South Carolina last night. He claimed that Gingrich’s past actions have embarrassed the Republican party, and Mitt Romney was more suited to be the nominee because of his record and how he conducted himself in office as opposed to Gingrich.

David Gregory asked Christie to explain what about Newt Gingrich’s politics or his character disqualified him from being the Republican nominee against President Obama. Christie suggested that Gingrich was too much like Obama, and “we don’t need another legislator in the Oval Office.” He reminded Gregory that Obama jumped directly from a position as a legislator to the presidency, making the argument that executive experience was vitally important for the next president to draw a stark contrast with how Obama has governed.

And Newt Gingrich, in Christie’s estimation, does not possess the kind of executive experience that he believes Romney does. Gregory pointed to a comment Christie made in December that Mitt Romney would not “embarrass America” and asked Christie if he thought Gingrich would. Christie agreed, pointing to times in the past when Gingrich has embarrassed the Republican party.

“We all know the record. He was run out of the speakership of his own party, he was fined $300,000 for ethics violations. This is a guy who’s had a very difficult political career at times and has been an embarrassment to the party… The fact of the matter is I don’t need to regale the country with that entire list again except to say this. I’m not saying he will do it again in the future, but sometimes past is prologue.”

Yeah, looked like John King was getting ready to break out in tears. Gingrich sure put the bitch slap on him. I loved it.

I am not a big Gingrich fan, but give the guy his due; he is one tough cookie. Wouldn't it great to see him take on Obama heads on in a debate? During the last election cycle, everyone treated Obama with kid gloves. It really pissed me off to see how McCain would not take it to him. When it comes to debates, Gingrich is king. He has too much historical and national policy facts at his mental finger tips and he is not afraid of anyone in that arena. I'll bet if he ends up pulling this off the Obama will duck the debates.

It will be a write in, if it's possible on potus ballots.

Previously, I've always voted for the Libertarian candidate on the ballot (only as a protest vote).

And Newt played it very well.

I think (haven't seen any data) that Newt's response helped him.

They said people who made their decision as to who to vote for after they saw the debate went 2:1 for Newt vs Romney.

This is the big opportunity to Newt, IMO.

    The debates.

There will be 2 debates before the FL primary.

Romney has already spent (his super-PACs included) over $4 million dollars in Florida compared to Newt's $1 mill, and Santorum and Paul's $800-900K.

I hope Gingrich can keep up the momentum.

Look at Romney: he outspends all of his competitors by a wide margin but cannot deliver a knock-out punch.

Romney has been running for offices in politics since 1994.

Makes me sick that big money buys elections - but hopefully not in Romney's case.

nothing will change until Americans actually learn the difference between facts and non-facts. those that claim the US is following free market principles today obviously couldn't tell the difference between a real space shuttle and one made out of Lego's. true free markets trade agreements would apply to EVERYONE, in EVERY job sector from the CEO level on down to the low skilled jobs at the bottom of the income ladder but that is not the case in reality. only specific jobs have been opened up to the free markets.

    I agree, min0.

I am rooting for the "lesser of the bads."

I don't like the GOP, nor the Dems.

I dont' like Obama, nor any of the candidates.

But I'd like to see Newt get the Nomination. (Well Ron Paul, actually but that will not happen).

I would like a hybrid of many of the ideas on both sides. Some of the Reps have good ideas, the tax policies they present are not them, and some of the dems have good ideas about regulating the banks. The problem is you have terrible legislation related to the environment to appease so very few killing business and projects but on the other side we have deregulation of banks that doesn't do us any good. It is damned if you do, damned if you don't.

What I want to see will never happen, I have just conceded that and am at peace with it. I will not vote for Barry though, he just flat out cannot inspire anything or so much as lead a group of people out a door without debate. I would rather risk another Bush light than have Barry at the helm if the shit hits the fan.
