I was home-schooled for a few years in elementary school when I was very young (family moved a lot). 3-4 hours of school per day, and I learned way more than I would have had I been in school. It all depends on the teacher though. My mom was a great teacher.

Public school is a shit show, unless you are taking honors classes. If not, the teachers have to run crowd control/accommodate the lowest common denominator. I can't speak for private schools, never been to one, but I imagine they are pretty good.

Sure, if you’re Amish. You can’t provide everything your child needs in his or her life at home. Find a good private school, and for Christ sakes stay clear of those Christian schools there a bunch of fuckin nut jobs.

What do you mean by provide?

I had a friend who was home-schooled his entire life. He scored 1550 on his SATs. His sister scored perfect (also home schooled). He is very well adjusted socially as well. They sure as hell weren't Amish. That family was pretty intense though, not your typical example.

If you have a parent who not only teaches you information, but also teaches you HOW to learn, you can learn very well on your own.

It takes a qualified and dedicated parent to make it work. If this is the case, I see no problem with home-schooling, especially given the sorry state of public education these days.
