no. i never turned it on in 2006 just had a gmail account sign in so i could watch youtube vids 18+. and my files are there back to 2006. i have reinstalled windows 15 times clean installed firefox etc. doesn't matter and it's not as simple as erasing browser history.

if you think about what you google people could get your location, what bank you use, if you're likely to have a lot of nice items to steal at your house, your sexual orientation, medical problems, what dr you see, if you have small children.... if your horse needs steroids.... if you're learning how to cook, political views...

supposedly they want to use the info to give you tailor made search results. that's bullshit. that's really annoying anyway but it has unbelievable potential for misuse as in selling it to advertisers or making it available to anyone that thinks you may have said terrorist any time in your life.

maybe you just don't want your wife to see what babe you're jerking off to

if you pause the history it still will gather info but with no person tied to the data.

Wow thanks Done! Someone must have been using my computer for the last 4-5 years. All I know I am glad I saw this and got the History to actually be history.

the more people that see it the better. it's unreal the stuff that's on there and every time you signed into gmail it started a record. if you don't sign out you're tracked by google. i found browser history on several gmail accounts i use

it's not merely browser history. this stuff stays recorded even if you redo windows. it's a google database not on your comp.

Taken directly from the article - "After the policy takes effect you are not allowed to opt out without abandoning Google altogether. But now before the policy takes effect, you have the option of deleting your Google Web History by modifying your settings so that Google is unable to associate data collected about you with your Gmail or YouTube accounts."

What this means is that if you EVER created a gmail email address and were logged in, your history was probably or WAS being recorded.

the "remove all web history" tab was not an option...you could either click no thanks, or click turn web history on....?????

im assuming since those were my two options that I am G2G

See this is the thing, and if I am understanding this correctly, you have to click the "turn web history on" button. From here a new window will open up and show you everything that has been archived.
