I'm the quintessential "cheap" engineer, I don't like paying a lot for gadgets because I know they are mostly obsolete when the hit the shelves plus I do things to my computers that void the warranty almost immediately. that being the case maybe $300-$500, not sure if I can get anything new for that or something refurbished.

iPad 2 are 399.00, the new one is 499.00 at best buy or wal mart. Don't waste your money on anything less

IIRC there was one made by a company that went bankrupt that was ridiculously better (matter of opinion I know) then the iPad.

The thing about other tablets vs the iPad is that as soon as you buy one, it's already obsolete. The android operating system is so "modifiable" that developers push new shit on the daily.

With the iPad, you get one tablet per year with a few updates. However, if you jailbreak it....that's a whole new ball game.

On my iPad 3 right now. It's the shit.

It definitely wont become obsolete for at least a year or two, and even then with rooting, modding, etc, it'll stay current for a while.

I am not going to lie, the last Android phone I had was the OG Evo way back in 2010. I am slowly starting to get back into the "cell game", but here is a good article describing both. Scroll down to the bottom and it gives a brief summation of the differences.

It all depends on what you use it for. heavy use should last you close to a day. Although, if its a first gen android tablet, the power management wasn't great. the current tablets out are much more efficient.

Do you want a 7" or a 10"? I find the 7" too small for almost anything but watching movies, forget ebooks IMO, too much scrolling. Have you thought about hacking an old HP WebOS tab with Android? Those are dual core and ~$180, 10".

As far as Apple, don't be silly and think that all companies don't play the trying to get out of paying more taxes game, and lets put our assembly labor overseas.

Anything under Android 2.3 is likely to be a piece of crap, resistive panel and horrible battery, etc etc. If its not Android 4 its probably an old piece of crap, thats obviously end of life. the tablets that dont have android play are the very cheap ones like kindle. The toshiba excite that I posted a link to is fully loaded.

I need the 10" to watch movies and stuff, sometimes I'm sitting idle for hours doing data migrations seems like people are always fucking up their routes these days more and more.

my issues with Apple are not just their business model to outsource the entire R&D and production process of their products it's also because they are cheap as fuck. they don't really pay their workers much and they also have to pay full price for all Apple products. i've worked for a number of billion dollar firms and have always gotten some kind of discount on products either from the parent company or a subsidiary. but the "new US" is all about profits and stock share prices.

the quad cores are more powerful than the computer on the first space shuttle and there were 8 computers on the shuttle. I like the Adroid technology, they've had the speech to text figured out long before apple.

iPad is just way better than all the rest. Game over.
