Texas Uninsured Struggle to Piece Together Care

One in 4 Texans has no health insurance. The president's signature piece of legislation --The Affordable Care Act-- seeks to fix that problem in part by expanding Medicaid. But some governors say they'll opt out of making Medicaid larger. (July 17)

Texas is ranked 26th and per capita income with the exception of Virginia which is #7 (tons of government workers and military there) all the rest of the RTW states rank at the bottom...

You left out the part where the RTW states tend to have a huge percentage of uneducated blacks and Hispanics. I'm sure you know all of their disparities when compared to whites and Asians.

sure are and there are plenty of reports that show the wonderful long term effects of Reagan and Bush Sr. keeping the minimum wage stagnant for a decade along with the low rate of labor unions in the US. those in the lowest wages states are most effected by the low rate of labor unions in the US the most.

you might also want to read some of the reports from Congress on welfare recipients in the 70's like I have and you know what they all said that there was an overall lack of jobs, and that was 30 years ago..that's the thing about systemic economic problems THEY DON"T JUST GO AWAY OR RESOLVE THEMSELVES simply because the date on the calendar changes, they get worst with time.. and don't forget that blacks did not formally enter the US workforce until the end of the 2nd Industrial Revolution in the 60's after the civil rights movement about 20 years before the US economy started to tank and inequality started to rise again thanks to Reaganomics...

and if you ever bothered to read any of the reports from the OECD you would have find out that income and the educational attainment of the parent greatly influences the educational success of the child.

and the lack of places like planned parenthood, etc..in the highly religious southern states is the #1 reason of the high teen pregnancy rates there per all of the OECD reports...there are more planned parenthood facilities in a 20mile range from my house in PA than in AL, MS and LO combined...

reports are ALL SO TRUE AND ACCURATE THAT YOU SHOULD LIVE YOUR LIFE BY THEM, right???

Don't bother to think for yourself and make your own destiny, let me tell you one component you forget. "people are not reports, people are where they are today because of the choice they made yesterday. They have people like you telling them "they cant make it on their own, they need the government help to make it" killing their forward thinking, you keep telling little uneducated jonny "you are poor because of inequality, low wages and reagonomics" and watch lil jonny end up on government welfare

but tell lil billy, this america, you can do anything you want, you can become anyone you want, you can make it in this world with hard work and determination, never look back keep pushing forward, he will thrive, succeed and would have given lil jonny a job, except jonny didn't hear the things billy did growing up, he is scared to succeed, jonny is stuck in the wrong mindset, jonny loses the free money if he gets a job.

your reports and studies ALWAYS leave out the strength and desire of humanity to succeed, because they come from BIG GOVERNMENT who needs lil jonnys vote to socialize America!

i think minimum wage should exceed the salaries of skilled employees.. that way, jerome and tyrese can stick to throwing their books and their desks at teachers and only have to worry about graduating from middle school.

Texas Is America's Top State for Business 2012

    News Headlines

This year?s study comes amid slowly improving fortunes for the states. A recovering economy coupled with lingering fiscal restraint following the Great Recession are helping states improve their finances for the first time in years.?Revenue performance remains positive, expenditures in most states are stable and few states have faced mid-year budget shortfalls in fiscal year 2012,? the National Conference of State Legislators reported in May. That means states can resume their focus on the battle for business ? and jobs.In addition to the top spot overall, Texas has the nation?s bestInfrastructure, according to our study. It improved to second place forTechnology and Innovation, and boasts the third lowest Cost of Living. The state's Workforce improved to seventh best from 14th last year. Access to Capital declined a bit, but Texas still finished in the top 10 (eighth). Perhaps most impressive, the Texas economy recovered from a rare stumble last year, when it finished 14th in the category, improving to fifth this year.
