I'm thinking he thinks if he does this, he can get some democratic votes and not loose republican votes. Let me tell him that if he does, that will be the biggest mistake he ever makes!!!!!!!!

I completely agree, that was my very first thought also. He's probably made deals with certain Senator/Reps to have them make sure it dies in congress. That way the ban will be dead, which will make the pro-gun crowd happy, but he still looks good in the eyes of the anti's. It's fucking politics and I don't like it.Originally posted by dg806

The pro gun issue is a very big deal to a lot of people like myself. One of the reasons I voted for Bush was because of his pro gun stance.

Looking at it objectively I don't think he's changed his stance at all, he's just moving it to the background on a single bill that won't pass Congress anyway. Like I said, he's playing politics.

Unfortunately that won't get him re-elected. We don't have to like the way it happens but in the long run it's a good thing to get him re-elected. If he has to be sneaky and a few toes get stepped on in the process we're still better off than the alternative. Understand though, all this goes out the window if the ban gets re-instated by Congress and he signs it into law.
