Dog run over, shot and frozen
From correspondents in Los Angeles
April 25, 2003

AS dog days go, it couldn't have been much worse for Dosha the mongrel.

In one morning, she was hit by a car, shot in the head and put in a freezer for two hours.

But the 35lb pit bull cross apparently has more lives than a cat and is expected to make a full recovery.

Meanwhile, she has become an instant celebrity in the United States.

Dosha's ordeal began when she was run over by a car in Clearlake, California. No bones were broken, but a policeman called to the scene did not know that.

Thinking the dog was in great pain, Officer Bob MacDonald decided to shoot Dosha in the head to put her out of her misery.

Presumed dead, Dosha was taken to the town's animal control depot and put in a freezer.

About two hours later, depot boss Denise Johnson was told of the incident.

"I went to the freezer and found that she was alive and cold," she said yesterday.

Ten-month-old Dosha had hypothermia, an injured muzzle and a gunshot wound, but was otherwise unhurt.

Now police have promised a full investigation amid growing outrage over the bungled attempt to put the dog down.

The US Humane Society has also started raising cash for Dosha' s care and recovery.

Clearlake police spokesman Lieutenant Ron Larsen said: "MacDonald decided to shoot the dog because he felt that it was too badly injured and wanted to relieve it from suffering."

Dosha was not wearing a collar, he added.

Fragments of the bullet have been removed from her head, but it is difficult for the vet to tell if the injuries there were caused by the accident or the bullet.

Lieutenant Larsen said the police manual allows for an officer to kill a dog if he believes it is extremely injured, or if it attacks.

"The dog was a pit bull and was snarling," he added.

"It is not uncommon for an injured dog to do that."

The dog's owner, Louetta Mallard, was reunited with Dosha at the vet's office.

"She was very excited to see me. After we managed to calm her down, she sat on my lap."

I clicked your article link Kuso...did you scrole down and see the story about the man who got his arm eaten by a tiger?!?!?!?

Here is the link

And the story...

Circus tiger eats man's arm
From correspondents in Madrid
April 24, 2003

A CIRCUS tiger has bitten off the arm of a man who wandered onto the show's grounds in Spain.

The man had apparently approached or reached into the animal's cage, officials said.

The Italian-owned International Circus had been preparing for its opening performance in Colmenar Viejo, outside Madrid, at the time.

The victim was a 28-year-old Ukrainian, whose name was not given.

There were no eyewitnesses to the attack, but it was believed the man either got close enough to the cage for one of the eight tigers inside to claw him or he reached into it, said Luis Serrano, a spokesman for the emergency medical crew that treated him.

The tiger bit off the man's right arm above the elbow and ate it and caused serious damage to the left arm.

The man's life was not in danger, Serrano said.
