Iran Fires At Unarmed U.S. Drone

Two things:

1. This happened last week, why are we just hearing about it now?
ANSWER: Because it was covered up intil after the election.

2. What will the Obama administration do about it?
ANSWER: I'll give you a clue, it starts with, 'N' and ends with 'ing.'

Iran fired on an unarmed U.S. drone last week as it was hovering in international airspace, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

Spokesman George Little said the incident, which marks the first time the Iranians have fired on a U.S. drone, occurred Nov. 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET.

He said the unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting "routine surveillance" over the Persian Gulf when it was "intercepted" by Iran. He said the MQ1 Predator drone, which was not hit, was not in Iranian airspace.

According to Little, two Iranian jets fired twice, missing on both attempts -- the drone headed away from the Iranian coast, landing safely soon after at an undisclosed location. The Iranian jets pursued the drone for a short period before giving up.

Little said the U.S. government has protested to the Iranians. Asked about how the U.S. could respond, he said: "We have a wide range of options from diplomatic to military."

He would not say whether there were actually plans for a military response. Asked if this should be considered an act of war, Little said he didn't want to get into "legal characterizations" of the event.

Little stressed that the drone was flying 16 nautical miles off the coast of Kuwait in international waters, and never entered the 12-mile limit that would constitute Iranian territory.

The Pentagon announced the incident as the administration imposed a new round of financial sanctions against Iranian officials and entities. They marked the first sanctions since President Obama's re-election Tuesday. According to the Treasury Department, the move was "related to the Iranian government's human rights abuses, its support of terrorism and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."

The drone encounter comes after a U.S. drone crashed in Iran late last year. Iran claimed to have shot it down, but U.S. officials said it merely malfunctioned and crashed.

Little said the U.S. will continue to run surveillance missions in the region.

Question is was it ever in the no-fly zone at any point? I know we have accidentally gone into the wrong spots in the past having done 2 tours in the Persian Gulf. It may have been fired upon in international space, but where had it been before that?

Doesn't matter where it was before. I doubt it was in Iranian airspace, but even it was, once it reaches international waters/airspace, you have to let it go.

Come on peeps, you know we were spying on their asses and we got caught, thats all. On top of that two jets fired on it and missed, it just goes to show you how much their pilots suck. And there is no such thing as transparency when it comes to any government. We know what they want us to know.

I had lunch at the UNO's right outside of the pentagon today and a couple of us were talking about it, and we don't know if they were just that bad of shots? Or, if they were just trying to chase it off.

If they just straight up missed, it shows you how poor their training and technology is.

lying about being transparent is about 100x better than lying about the causes of an unnecessary and costly war in the middle east at several trillion in debt, selling weapons (both conventional and biological) to Saddam Hussein or even say starting an illegal war and using money from cocaine sales to pay for it and aid the Contras.

nah...we've never been lied to before, Obama is surely the first and it all started in 2009.

Which is awesome because it makes him blameless. Continuing the wars in the Middle East aren't his fault. Extending and increasing TARP isn't his fault. Increasing warrantless wiretaps isn't his fault. Increasing special interest groups presence in D.C. isn't his fault. Giving a no-bid contract to Haliburton isn't his fault. Continuing the operation of Gitmo isn't his fault. Cracking down on the people's desire to legalize pot isn't his fault. Hiring a tax dodger (not using loopholes, simply not paying) to be the Treasury Secretary. And he continued the Patriot Act.

You're right, nothing to blame him for there.

that would be your interpretation, government has been lying to us for over a hundred years and the past 20+ POTUS, get over it. sorry your kids are fucked but that's why I didn't have any. I don't expect anything to change as there is nothing to show that it can or is since the entire US political system is fubar due to the legalized corruption of capital and lobbying.

Let's be clear on this... Are you saying that when GWB did these things, it was his fault, but when Obama does them, they're not?

So which is it? Are they both guilty, which means you're blaming Obama too, or are they both not-guilty, in which case you're absolving GWB?
