I was just thinking a 2 month supply could get the average person through a natural disaster or short term power outage. I have a child and wife to look out for.

I live in Chicago... The day after the election there were a bunch of military choppers. Probably escorting the president.

totally understandable, you have to be prepared for their sake.

Honestly, I've never even really thought about prepping. I thought that they were kinda crazy..but, the more I see what's going on in this world, I guess I've already started prepping somewhat. I have all of my military ACU's and I've stocked up for my wife and some for my family. I'm not prepared for a nuclear attack, but EMP or food shortage..whatever...

I have multiple firearms and over 6000 rounds of ammo. I guess I'll just have to head for the hills. I also have mutiple ballistics vets and LVII biologica/chemical masks.

I just have 2 good bags packed in the closet with some his & hers body armor ready to go for a short emergency a big pack for me and a little one for a female to carry. if I had a family with small kids that would be a different story.

It's ok to be prepared but some people go too far

Dont forget about water filtration. Food is secondary. Even if you didnt stock up on food, You could kill domestic dogs and cats if you were starving. but without clean water, you wont make it. Im picking up a smoker shortly and im going to dehydrate as much meat as possible. This should last almost 12-18 months shrink wrapped with a sorbitol packet within.

Don't forget guns. Lots of guns and ammunition.

Yup, plenty of water, water filters and water purifying tabs. Weapons and ammo as well.

I've got so much backpacking and camping gear it's ridiculous. I'm prepared to sleep in sub zero conditions too. Although I do need some more guns and ammo.
I don't think it's such a bad idea to have a couple months of gear and food on hand. Just a major weather disaster can be a problem.

Yes, 6 months of testosterone and pins is a must. Last year every pharmacy was out of testosterone when I tried to call in my script. Never missed a pin though =)

Starve or eat lousy tasting food for a little while? I'll settle for the lousy tasting food for a bit to make it through whatever disaster hits.

went to that site and filled out a form for a free sample. if the food is half as good as they make it look in the pictures it can't be worst than anything we ate in the military.

Yeah, I figured it has to be a step up from MRE's.

I was also thinking that I would mix canned tuna or chicken with the entree's that have just pasta and a sauce. Might make them a bit more palatable.

Having some stores is always a good idea. Those people on Dooms Day Preppers are way out there in the weeds. I watched a bunch of them and each of them have an irrational fear aboust some end of the world shit hits the fan scenario. When you become that obsessed with something, you are nuts. One of the guys from the first season was declared mentally defective by the State of Tennessee and lost his gun rights for his own protecton.

My mom and sister live in Charleston, SC. They keep at a minimum of at least two weeks of food and water on hand all the time. They live far enough from the coast that there is no chance of a storm surge, but being without power or water for an extended period is a real possibility. I grew up in Buffalo, NY. Blizzards would paralyze the city every couple years or so. Again, my folks kept **TONS** of food in the basement. I remember being snowed in for almost ten days one year. No getting to the market. Even if we could the delivery trucks could not get in. This being ready thinking is still a part of me. I live in an area where nothing happens except an occasional dust storm or really rough thunderstorm rolls through. It is inconceivable to me not to have at least a months worth of food and water stashed in the house. I cure my own meats and can fruits and veggies.

Oh, that My Food Storage place is the most expensive one out there. And I would take a MRE over the dehydrated stuff any day of the week.

One more thing. All those "emergency" food kits are based on diet of 1800-2000 calories per day. If you are in a bad situation, you can easily burn 4-5000 calories per day digging yourself out. So, keep that in mind.

the fed gov started to crack down on re-selling of MRE's on the Internet years ago, even ebay had to comply so they are much harder to get now. unless you know of a site that still sells them.

I'm sticking with guns, ammo and water. I figure I can kill something to eat if need be. And if there's nothing left to kill, then we're all fucked anyway.

When I was a boy we lived in Wyoming. The snow storms combined with frequent high winds would literally snow us inside the house with huge 6-7 foot drifts. We would have to dig out of the house in some cases. I remember the candles under the water pipes and the faucets being left open slightly to keep the water from freezing. Back then we all had large fireplaces that could heat the home. If you didn't have a food pantry you would have to find a way to get to a farm where they had milk, eggs and butter from the cows and chickens. Everyone had guns and a pantry though. It was just a part of life with the extreme weather each year.

I'm supplementing the freeze dried food with canned foods. I figure a half and half approach will add variety and calories. I'm also stocking 20lbs of various protein powders. I have been to like 20 different sites that list the top 10 most important or high calorie foods that can be stored long term. Peanut butter/nuts and honey seem to be on most lists. Short term, having a generator is good. Long term, you're going to run out of fuel for it and you would have been better served learning to live without electricity. Also, having electricity makes you a prime target for those who feel they may be able to take it from you.

Oil lamps, wood burner stoves and candles. Solar chargers for flashlights and your entertainment, such as an ipod. Don't forget to learn how to can and process meat that you kill.

Was based on a possible terrorist attack, using a nuclear EMP blast.
Set our country back several hundred years.
