This may not be extreme (as probably some of my others), but cell phones should be banned while driving a moterized vehicle. There have been a number of studies which equate talking on a cell phone to that of being legally drunk. And it's very obvious those studies aren't that far off.

I strongly disagree on this one. Doing so would drastically demoralize us, as a whole, even further. Allowing the state(s) to recognize them as a couple would mean insurance prices would go up. Aids would be much more widespread.

First of all, calling Afirmative Action reverse discrimination is acknowledging discrimination exists to begin with....most opponents to Affirmative Action argue that discrimination

Second, how come policies that attempt to equalize opportunities
that were once not afforded to individuals "suck"

Unfortunately, you won't have much input once she reaches legal age. You can do your best to supress her thoughts if she were to have them, but that's about all you can do. We've already discussed this between us. You or I should get a job or a grant just because of the color of our skin or our sex? That's wrong. You or I should have to prove that we are worth the job (or whatever) at hand.

Let me get this right... You are saying that "company x" once didn't let minorities in and now "company x" let's the previous generations siblings in. Right?

Affirmative action, as it stands today, is not about minorities having equal rights.

We've been there and done that. Any minority can ride the same bus as me, they can walk on the same side of the street as me.

It's about giving minorities a handout because they (the leaders and pusher of this) think that minorities are to dumb or lame to get a job based on their skills alone.

This is what I have personally seen. Some white guy applies for a job. He has lots of skills, lots of past experience. A minority also applies. He is out of high school. No past work experience. He gets the job. Why? The company needs to fill their "quota"...

Is that right?

Anyone should be able to apply for a job, or attemp to join something. That's what "equal opportunity employment" is all about.

Unfortunately, affirmative action has been clusterfucked into something it shouldn't be. Merits should be the primary determinant for a job, race/gender/ethnicity should be the absolute last. Sadly, this is not the case many times.

because of skin color or sex.

A recent study conducted by Northeastern Univ. proved
that applicants with for jobs, housing, etc, with the SAME educational and experience factors were denied these opportunities if their names were not what
is considered mainstream "Anglo-American" (i.e. Todd, John, Christine, Susie, etc...).
Applicants with names like (Kwame, Hakeem, India, Erykah, etc..)
were denied the opportunity to compete
for the job or housing though they possessed
the same credentials (education and experience)
as the aforementioned applicants

No one is looking for a handout,
just a fair, impartial opportunity
to compete

The point here is that ANY draft in sports (baseball, hockey, football, etc...) is Affirmative Action. The Most disadvantaged
team is provided an opportunity to compete for the best
available player before a team that has the most advantages.

Here's another one, the U.S. granting
nations MFN (Most Favored Nation) status
is a form of Affirmative Action.

Okay, NorthwesternUniversity and other
institutions of higher learning at one time (pre 1970)
would not allow "non-white"students to attend there.

Now, applicants of Northwestern Univ and other
institutions of higher learning, if these applicants
are the children of alumni, they get
preferential treatment or "bonus points"
granted based on their parents being alumni.

If you're an alumn of a institution that
would not allow "non-whites" to attend,
your children are benefactors of
Affirmative Action if they receive preferential
treatment as a result BECAUSE "non-white" applicants
cannot receive this treatment because their
parents were denied admission based on their race.
This children of alumni preferential treatment
is race based.
