Meet the women behind the My Purse. My Choice parody PSA tackling the NFL's new purse restrictions
By Jeff Mosier
The NFLs ban on most purses triggered grumbling among some women unhappy with the prospect of restricting the contents of their bags, or the prospect of buying a new clear bag to meet security demands.
Two women in New Orleans found humor in both the NFLs inconvenient rules and the outrage it inspired. They expected to bring a few laughs to New Orleans sports fans and their friends in the local comedy scene.
Instead, Colleen Allerton (@lleenypants) and Lauren LaBorde (@laurenlaborde), scored a viral hit with their mock public service announcement My Purse. My Choice.
Inspired by Planned Parenthood-type ads, the video strikes a serious tone at first. Somber music plays as the women wearing simple black dresses stand in front of a white background and explain the downside to not having a fully stocked purse.
Living with sweaty bangs because you dont have a bobby pin on you, Allerton says in the video. You can't see if you have something in your teeth because you don't have at least three Sephora mirrors that came with gift cards.
She explains that the league rules are an attack on women and their freedom of choice.
My purse. My choice, LaBorde announces in the video, a twist on the My Body. My Choice abortion rights slogan.
The two-plus minute video continues with them explaining all the necessary items found in purses, including, Dr. Scholl's inserts, 17 J.Crew receipts, a freezer bag of cookies, turkey wrap, generic Afrin, a weapon and much more. The deadpan delivery grows funnier as the list veers between the normal Tide pen and the silly someone else's purse.
The video had nearly 377,000 views by Friday and a portion had been shown on the Today Show. It?s also been mentioned everywhere from the New York Times to CNN.
