There's no "good shoe" for everybody ..
Nike will give you good all-foot support, but has a very "loose" sole, therefore making it unsuitable for people with natural foot instabilities (like flat feet, sagging bridge, pronating or supinating heel-movement).
Adidas has the corrective "support" line, which is very good for all-round training (running in the woods etc ..)
My current running shoes are Asics Kayano, and they take about 10 miles daily. If you're running some distance, it's not only the kind of shoe that matters, it's also how soon you change them again.
Best practice is to buy a pair of running shoes for every 1000 km, but overlapping every 500 (buying second pair after 500 km, and alternate pairs, then replace old pair after another 500 km, and so on..)
Don't go running on Nike's unless you've got a really, really stable foot (less then 10% of all runners have this).
