Today marks the 1,000th day of human occupancy of the International Space Station which began with the arrival of the Expedition 1 crew, Commander Bill Shepherd, Soyuz Commander Yuri Gidzenko and Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev, on Nov. 2, 2000. The Station is now the size of a three-bedroom house and will grow even more in the years ahead in size and scientific research capability.
To commemorate this special event the Expedition 7 Station crew will downlink a message at 9:35 a.m. CDT. The message will be aired live on NASA TV and will also be replayed along with retrospective Space Station video highlights in the NASA TV video file. The video file airs on NASA TV at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m., 11 p.m., 2 a.m., and 8 a.m. CDT. These video excerpts highlight the major achievements of the past 1,000 days in the
assembly and utilization of the ISS.
NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe and other Heads of Agency and their representatives will offer their congratulations to Expedition 7 Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA Science Officer Ed Lu aboard the ISS at 1:43 p.m. CDT. These greetings will be included in the video file beginning at 5 p.m. CDT.

I read the thread, but didn't have anything to contribute to it. Just posted this so you'd know someone was here.


I have seen a show on muscle wasting in space which was pretty interesting. They have a hard time simply maintaining current bone density/muscular strength and endurance because of the low/"no" gravity.

Very true Mudge! That's one reason why all they astronauts on the ISS are required to exercise every day and why they are only allowed to stay in space a certain amount of time!
