    Gay Bishop?

The Episcopal Church has confirmed the election of its first openly gay bishop. Reverend V. Gene Robinson will be bishop of New Hampshire.
Do you agree or disagree with the Episcopal Church’s decision to elect an openly gay bishop??

Sure, why the hell not? Doesn't matter to me since I don't go to church. It wouldn't matter to me anyway.

Whether you go to church or not, it seems a bit contradictory don't you think?

Yes, but I stopped trying to understand the logic of the church ages ago.

Mormons believe that it is a crime to keep a man from marrying (like a priest), but if they are supposed to stay away from sexual relations it almost seems weird to even bother telling anyone your gay, although I suppose sometimes its very obvious.

Despite what we as individuals think, the church's own doctrine (The Bible) states it's not ok. So I find they are compromising their own values (once again) in this hypocrisy. That said, I am not a member of the church.

Interesting enought (no matter what you think of the legitimacy of their theology), they caved in and let the state tell them they could not have multiple spouses when it was a part of their religion. I think attendance has been dropping off ever since they lost that benefit...

I agree with you. They only have like 2 million members so I expect a major breakup of this denomination and it will probably be absorbed into the Anglician church - which will cause ripples in that belief system. What is amazing is that the Episcopals thought it more correct to divide the church over this issue for the sake of picking up the homosexual constituency and did not seem to care that they might completely lose thier own congregation in so doing. Sounds pretty irrational to me.

My dad says the same thing, BUT - first rule of thumb for a Mormon, you follow the laws of the country you live in. This is why I call people on steroids that are Mormons, so far though every one of them says I'm on HRT.

I did not know about that subtle dimension of Mormonism theology. I never thought to suspect that the Angel "Moroni" carried an American flag when he gave Joseph Smith access to the Urim and Thummim . This fact immediately tells me additional things about their theology that I find troubling and would rather not utter here...

I am still trying to figure religion out.

I go to church weekly, but not really for the 'worship' aspect, simply the community and great people I get to see every week.

    Perhaps things will change...

They will trump - after a while of hearing all this stuff in the background you begin to think about it more deeply and less tangently. God has a way of getting your attention when you least expect it. Phones ring, conversatons happen, you meet people, "stuff just happens". Just try to be receptive to it since it can be subtle.

Me and religion are like oil and water.

Therefore, I agreed with the decision, because they voted on it. Had they voted to not let him be bishop or whatever, I'd be fine with that...it's their religion. They can do what the want within their own religion. When they start telling ME how to live, then I have an issue with them.

Well this is precisely the problem with voting kinds of systems - majority wins. Not to shock you but society is telling you how to live every day in a Democracy and many of us are starting to realize that the "good guys" are no longer in the majority. Stay tuned...

I understand what you're saying. And I agree. The democracy in this country is supposed to be set up to protect the minority.

I am a part of the minority on most issues in this world. At least I still have the ability to think and say waht I want. How long that stays the same, I have no idea, but things aren't looking good..

Hi lina. I mean that ordinary everyday little events and circumstances just begin to string together in a pattern that can not be explained as mere chance that lead you to discover more about God.

I agree with this. God puts you in situations where you can be a witness to someone else who needs it or vice versa. How do you know?? Your heart will tell ya!

I don't believe in God, at least not until I die and he shows himself to me, sends me to hell, or whatever. so this is probably not a place for me to voice my opinion.....

Ahh shoot Freeman - just hang in there. God will find you. Everytime you see a person who is suffering a setback and not giving up or every time you see random acts of kindness or selfless acts of compasion it makes an impression on a person. Someday you will find yourself helping another person and it will be inconvenient to you and you will ask yourself "why am I helping this person, I have my own problems". When that happens you will suddenly discover that there is something inherently "good" in you that you had not thought much of before. All it takes is a very small spark to bring forth the illumination. God has a way with hounding people all their life - I found out you can't really hide. don't be too surprised when you find yourself someday speechless and smiling that he cared to find you. Hang in there.
