The Shiite dominated government is putting Sharia Law into the Constitution.

It's not about freedom.


As for spending, wait until the all of the "reconstruction" and corporate contracts start - if - the Americans end up with the Shiite government they want in power.

Re "Someone Else's Child," by Bob Herbert (column, June 20):

As the mother of a young man who walked away from a college scholarship in the fall of 2001 to join the Marines, I fully agree with Bob Herbert. To Congress, the administration and all those who voted for President Bush, I ask, Did you vote for the war only if it meant that you didn't have to spill your own children's blood?

My marine son is permanently disabled from a roadside bomb blast while on patrol in one of those infamous unarmored Humvees. More than 200 men in his 1,000-man battalion were either injured or killed during their second Iraq deployment.

His unit is scheduled for a third tour later this summer.

My son is a better man and human being for making a commitment to his country after we were attacked.

It's not the military that parents need to be worried about. It's the misuse of the military by the current administration that should frighten us all.

Tired old rightwing cliche about the media. Just because everyone doesn't take direction from Faux News doesn't automatically mean there is a "liberal" bias.

Of course, if we are going to earmark some money for Iraq, we might try actually putting something into our soldiers and equipment, since protecting the people of the United States is the primary mission of our armed forces:

Imagine that. . . we're supposed to replace every goat and pig in each Iraqi village to stabilize Iraq's economy and encourage them not to shoot at us, but we can't pay for a canteen for our own soldiers.

I have. Almost two years old and someone had to bring this back!

I'll stay in mexico and not worry about it.

All I will say is... if we need to cut back on spending, there are MANY places I think we could start cutting back, both on spending and on gov involvement, before cutting back in Iraq.
