My brother was getting all sappy over the phone and said 'I love you'. Sorry, I could not say it back. How about you?

I don't have a brother so I can't relate at that level, but I tell me son that all of the time. I don't think that I could say that to any other guy.
It's a guy thing. Soldiers in a unit (for example) put their lives on the line for each other and are usually very close, but there's no way in hell they will ever tell each other ILY.

I would've said it. You never know how his brain was thinking on the other line. Maybe he was depressed and just wanted to hear someone loved him.

I agree with this to an extent. Overall.....I believe all women enjoy this in a man.
Most of them are gay though. No offense. I have gay guy friends. THEY ARE THE BEST.........They can shop, decorate, lend a should, they're understanding, have style.....and....can give the inside scoop!

I don't like saying it. I never say it to my dad and only sometimes to my mom, never to my brother (who would never say it either), and hardly to my sister unless she gives me a hard time.

I tell my friends, family, husband, children, brother, sister & grandma I love them every time I talk to them. Because, you never know.
I told my grandfather I loved him every single day, as soon as we all found out he was dying from cancer. We all found this out, including him, on Fathers Day. What a day!!!! Needless to say, he knew he was loved because we showed it and we said it!

But sometimes, you need to hear it. Some times, "knowing & Feeling" it doesn't measure up to "hearing" it.

Two years ago my dad past. Last time I talked to him was on the phone and I made a point to tell him that I love him. No one knew he was going to go the next day. Now in retrospect I hold on to that and I know he knew how I felt. If I didn't there would be much regret.
Now I say I love you to people in my life that I care about a bit more freely. Including friends. I guess it depends on who your friends are because I usually get a response. Not that I need one. My son's are told I love you on a daily bases even though I don't live with them. It truly is not manly to be a stone. chicks look for a whole lot more then that in a man.
