Im absolutely disgusted with myself. For losing? No, not at all. Im disgusted with myself that I didnt take this seriously. I didnt train for it, and with moving and not training I figured that there was no way I would make the weight limit I signed up for. Then three days ago when I unpacked my scale in my new apartment I got on for shits and giggles and realized that even without training I had dropped to 2 pounds below the fighting weight just from not eating so I decided to do it.
The night before I stayed up with my roommates and some ladies till 4am having a good time, still not believing that the fight was actually coming. Then 2 hours later I wake up.... its fight day. We got there early, and I asked the promoter Kerry Roop if I could fight nhb instead of submission grappling, because submission grappling is NOT what I like but I would do it to prove that I can handle myself win or lose. He said after my first match if he sees I am worthy, then he will try to find me an opponent. The night is starting, and all the fighters are in the ring for the matchups. The fighters are supposed to be matched up according to weight and competition experience. Well Im 0-0 right? Well I got matched up against a guy thats been fighting there for 4 years, and has 13 fighters for that promoter alone. When I heard that, I knew I was in for a really really long day, but my opponent was the greatest guy and Im so happy I got to share the mat with him. That said, Id give my left nut for a rematch when Im actually training. I went as hard as I could, for as long as I could. We exchanged leg locks, and I thought I was damn near ripping his leg off, but he was just too slick and had a great tolerance for pain that even during the fight impressed me. The strange things I think about during a fight lol. We were constantly transitioning and going back and forth, when I finally just had nothing left and got caught in a triangle and I just didnt have the strength to get out. I sat there thinking "I can get out of this, I know how to get out of this, why the hell aint I out of this?" the next thing I know, even though Im not choking, my shitty ass surgically repaired spine is burning so I tapped out. Im not breaking my neck again for a show that I had to pay to fight in and get nothing in return. I got up, hugged my opponent, and graciously took my silver medal. The promoter then told me that if I wanted to, I could do nhb and kickboxing for him anytime. That at least made me feel good that he could see I wasnt some schmuck, I have skills. I felt I proved more in my loss to someone experienced than if I had beat some poor kid who didnt know what he was doing. Frank Shamrock says "It doesnt matter if you win or lose, were all here just doing what we love and thats all that matters" and thats true... I just wish I had trained for it, since it is what I love. Thats MY mistake. As disgusted as I am with myself, I see hope that I can be good. With no training, no cardio, no sleep, and no friggin experience I gave a veteran all he could handle. Also, I made it to 173 from 186 just by cutting out alot of fat. I figure with training and even more improvements in my diet I can make it down to 155 and finally give that Ryan Bow a woopin. Sorry I didnt have better news for you guys. |

I remember Mike Tyson said he lost his first match that way too, believing he was invincible and just getting sloppy with time... A good lesson to learn at least once I suppose, so long as you can remember it

How tall are you???. What style of grappling did you study???. I am a Boxer and a fair wrestler and have a great interest in NHB. I'm in the Military so it's hard to get time to train. But I now have time and am looking forward to fighting in a different ring than the boxing ring!.

Well MM, good job on going in and giving it what you could. Sorry to hear that you lost, but I'm glad that you took some lessons out of it.
Yeah, with a healthy diet and good training program you can cut extra fat and put the pain on the lighter weight guys Hope the next one goes well! Haha, and none of that staying up late stuff the night before fight night. |

When one talks like that in public, one shouldnt post pics of ones family to the internet. It drags them down too. |
