i need some help from any of you mechanics or anyone familiar with auto mechanics. how do you disassemble the fan from the pulley that is attached to the timing chain, i need to get to the timing chain to replace some gaskets! thanks for any advice or help... possibly any sites u can forward me to... thanks!
Get a chiltons for your car man. On every car I have seen the fan is attached to the fan clutch by 4-6 bolts, very easy to remove.
Doing the timing chain requires precision, I helped a friend after a cam swap on an LT1 (Chevy 350) who had the timing chain off by one link from the crank to the cam, and his car ran like shit. I asked him if he was SURE he did it right and he insisted he did, we tore down into the timing cover again anyway, and sure enough it was off and then he responds "I thought it was close enough?" after I just got done explaining it had to be EXACTLY on the mark, otherwise it could be off 10º or who knows what.
It is a precision job, get a manual. If you can tell someone what kind of car it is you may find something on the net, since you specify nothing I have no idea if this is pushrod, OHC or what.
Pushrod cars are easy, OHC stuff is a freaking PITA.
