You have me laughing already, ponyboy...and damn...what happened with your interview at that big health club?
I'm at a large University and we have a huge fitness forum with Nautilus machines, a Universal area, and an even bigger free weight room, and I'm already changing my workout schedule to try avoiding the onslaught of students for spring semester. From January until early March, the Rec gets a flood of students on a mission to get in shape before Spring Break - after March, the number drops off fast.
Most come in small groups and spend 2/3 of their workout chatting, meaning they sit on whatever machines they are using for long periods of time. They don't seem to have any real program to help them reach a goal, don't seem interested in learning how to use any equipment properly, and think nothing of butting in to ask if they can have the machine WHILE you are in the middle of a set.
In the free weight room, this also means that most of them will never return a plate to the storage pedestals, will toss dumbbells all over the floor (along with most plates) and leave equipment wherever they were using it. This is despite all the signs to please put plates back, of course... The regular heavier free weightlifters I know there tell me they have to increase their own workout time by at least 30 minutes and eliminate supersets during this time unless they come in on Friday or Saturday nights.
The worst thing is that inevitably there will be machines knocked out of commission (usually several every year at this time) because someone didn't know how to use them or got pis*ed off at the padding or seating controls and break them.
