Since it is supercooled potassium atoms then I can only imagine the way it was discovered. Remember, many discoveries are pure accident or luck.
I imagine some research technician had just returned from lunch when they had eaten a bunch of banannas (rich in potassium) then sat on a window ledge where the outside temperature was well below freezing. All of a sudden they blew a huge fart and the gas condensates on the window glass providing the evidence of the new state of matter.Just a regular guy.

There's some stuff in the bottom of our garbage can I think could be the 7th form of matter. It's sort of in between a solid and liquid yet it morphs to a gas when you poke it.
