    Are we that shallow ?

If you are a bodybuilder you have some genes of vanity.

I was worried before if I was taking bodybuilding too serious while there is other problems to solve out there. But if you think about it, everybody has pride about something. Some people like this, some people like that.

This came to my mind while I was buying my expensive foods and supplements. In my country it is easier too see more poverty than in U.S.

    But now I am okay.

I hope this thread donīt get you down, I just wanna know your thoughts on the subject.

I like to do what I do because I like it. Make sence? There is plenty of poverty here too bro...
People need to take responsibility and solve their own problems. Im tired of bailing people out.

    hmmm....

as for the expense, we could easily spend a lot more money going out drinking etc. for me it's my entertainment and my food expenses rolled into one.

some people who take it up may be very vain but i know many who started off very insecure and improved their self image and confidence as a result.

    Not much buddy.
It is a quote from the movie Pulp Fiction. I dont necissarily believe in it, but it is true. If you have pride in something that usually means that you will stick up for it. That can lead to confrontation, and death.

"some people" was code for "some people like me"

when i first started going to the gym all those mirrors everywhere REALLY bothered me. took some serious getting used to.

SELF PITY I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. (D.H. Lawrence)
I like so much this quote that I copied a few days ago to make a t-shirt

It has everything to do with the subject of the thread too.

I hate self pitty, it is not good for anything, Nietzsche was right about some things.
But I canīt say that it doensīt occur once in a while.

NG-- there is a flaw in that quote... Animals have no sence of self(ie: they dont know they exist here in the universe) Therefore they cant have self pitty.

how could we prove or disprove whether they have a sense of self?

An animal... and yet more Definitely the most advanced of the animals, at least I'd like the think so. So perhaps we have a few properties inherent in us that set us apart

If you think about it, there is no much difference between us and the rest of the animal kingdom.
We are intelligent but compared to what ?
We have the same behavior of them.
Just the level of complexity in our tasks is that is different.

Intelligent... compared to anything else that we know.

It is not just our tasks that are more complex, but our minds are more complex as well.

There is a lot of difference... Not many animals walk upright, not many animals have an aposable thumb, our brains are more complex. Thats just a few things. We also have speech.

The ability to communicate is certainly something that sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. While animals can communicate, they are not as efficient at it nor is their communication as complex as ours.

...and we do lay moral blame on animals (i.e. a "bad" dog). this would seem to indicate a belief that they possess a sense of "self"

i'm about done. philosophical arguements frequently lead to circular logic and migraines on my part.

    Oooh, no migraines for you

Animals can indeed feel bad to a large degree as much as humans can. I think that for the most part feelings of bad/wrong/good, etc are trained into us.

Like rats in a cage pushing buttons... you, me, fido. Ah well.
