How to start a business ? Help

Hi there. I am planning to open a business. I will decide later what kind .. gym, eletronic store, book store, restaurant.

What I don´t know is how to start to look for information. Like:
-What papers and permits I must have.
-Where to find the suppliers of the products.
    -Fees that I must pay.

Is there a book called Business for Dummies out there ?
I need some univesal advices, remember that I am not in USA.

    Thanks very much

Hey man. When I was younger I ruled at Monopoly lol

I know it is difficult and the complexity may raise exponentially but I am young and it is a good idea to start a small one to see how good I am at the business world.

not to be nosy...but did you recently fall into some cash?

opening a business takes A LOT of money, so just wondering.

    here is my advice:

1.) if you have to ask others what type of business to open, don't open one cause it will fail. the reason I say this is because you have to open a business that YOU are passionate about. i.e. I would love to open a gym, it's one of my dreams.

2.) seriously consider a franchise, 90% of non-franchise businesses fail in the first year.

3.) obviously it depends on the type of business, but typically you will need serious cash up front, especially for a store front type business and a franchise.

I agree with Prince's sentiments about money and passion for your business, but if you want to get started somewhat...

You will need one big thing at the beginning - money. Usually acquired through a loan or a small business grant (we have those in Canada). This requires applying for one at a bank or credit union. To apply, you need to talk to a banker and you should put together a business plan which covers all aspects of your business - what you're going to do, how, why, all your financial forecasting, etc. It is not a small undertaking - my business plan was 72 pages long and took me several weeks to complete. You can find examples of business plans all over the internet.

You also will likely have to register yourself as a business with your government, meaning you need a name. There are lots of legal things to worry about as well - taxation issues, etc. It's not easy.

Good luck though with whatever you choose to do!
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

You might want to look into some classes at community college or similar on starting up a business. They usually cover the basics.

The downside of a franchise is the franchise fee. I just had a client who paid $50K for a franchise. Most are not that much though.

However, with the franchise (and the monthly fees) often comes the point-of-sale software you will need as well an outline of what needs to be done/purchased. Most good franchise companies want you to be prepared b/c a failed franchise is no good for anyone involved.

I agree with Prince. I could tell by your questions you were not ready. You need to decide what type of business you want then work on the financial side then worry about permits and such. Owning your own business is not what it is cracked up to be. Alot harder than most people think!

thank b4 you act, make sure you read, study, whatever
just make sure that you know ALL of the risks, what to do, what is best, how to do everything

from your stated position, i will take you a decade to be in good shape
sorry if i sound like a downer...but doing something like that is risky
and if it backfires, youll have nothing left
