I have a dream Number 1??? bullshit! Who says so? I'd hardly put that 1st. Top 10 but no way 1st. How can the D.D.Eisenhower speech regarding the japanese attack on Pearl be that low? Everyone can recite at least one line from that speech. All people remember of the I have a dream speech is......I have a dreeeaam!!
I still like it though.

What about Abraham Lincons Address to the nation? That was very famous and not even on the list.

I'm sure it was surveyed at some point in time, meaning biased in terms of how people voted and who voted.

Speeches from the 1700s and 1800s are going to be mostly out of sight, out of mind.

I know its not American, but one of my favorite speeches of all time is Churchill's, "We shall never surrender" during WWII.

Very powerful speech, and very "remembered"! It's a speech that I believe all schools teach, we even studied that speech in my college speech class.

but as Mudge said how recent they are and who voted obviously will play a big part, but I have no problem with "I have A Dream" being number one!

Well it counts as being American since Britian was our number one allie. That was an excellent speech, I agree.

I agree it was powerful but moreso due to MLK's deliverance. He was a powerful speaker.
