Do a search for pop-up ads on this forum. Mudge gave some advice on how to shut off your messenger service which helped me. Ad-aware is a good program that removes spyware, but i needed to shut off the messenger to completely get rid of them.

Best thing to do is runa firewall to block it all. Zonealarm pro is great.

I also use the google toolbar and it works fairly well. But if you're looking to pay, a firewall may be the better solution.

I know how you feel. What is this google bar yall are talking about? Someone gimme details, but I don't want another bar on my browser.

For a few months now I have been pop up free but this past week has been the worst case I've had of popups since i-lookup got on my computer (gawd that sucked)

since that incedent it's been a war with me and popups, I hate them with a passion. I hate stuff getting on my computer without my permission, thinking they can download crap on my comp that I didn't ask for. I hate it.

So regardless, you seriously should download two must-have free programs onto your computer. The first one is called Spybot Search and Destroy. Use this link and click Download:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/

    next you will want Ad-Aware.
    http://www.lavasoft.de/

once you start enjoying the feeling of a popup slowly being tortured and killed you can graduate to hijackthis.
    http://s89223352.onlinehome.us/mirror/hjt/

that only trick to hijackthis is you will have to download the program, follow the directions precisely, then click on the messageboard forum on the left of the page, post your log that you get from hijackthis, and then follow their directions precisely that they give you.

The thing is that spybot S&D and Ad-Aware combined will most likely kill most if not all of your popups. But occasionally, like what happened to me this past week, you'll get an exception, a hijacker- a trojan. And they can't kill these mother fuckers. These are the Bin Ladin's on the war against popup terr-ar. That's when you need hijackthis. But if feels oh so good to kill these guys cuz you gotta go in and do it yourself, meaning a program doesn't just pick it out foryou and kill it. You have to go in the mountains and find the cave it's living in and kill it yourself. Personally, I love to find it and tell it how I've already deleted all of it's little popup buddies and his dream to fuck with my computer so that I can't look at porn without interuption or it telling me that I can save hundreds on penis enlargement pills or to play it's gawd dang video poker. Then once all it's hopes and dreams are diminished I delete some folders around it, "AM I NEXT?" it's thinking? But no, it's not that lucky. I'm gonna kill it's subfolders first. Then it's .exe files. Then, if it's lucky, I don't just leave it there, nothing but an empty folder name lost in a world of Program Files and Temporary Internet Files filled with fake nude pics of celebrities and the looping chorus of dancing hampsters for all eternity.

    GOD I HATE POPUPS!!!

Stay away from the porn sites while you're taking your tests. j/k

Pop-up Stopper has work great for me. I also have the Google for added protection.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles

and drag down the features of age,

no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Because it detects it as a popup, Google Toolbar does not do this if you set the page to allow popups which is done easily, or you can just turn off the popup Private Message notification.

I would love some freeware that would send a virus back to the pop-up add sending douche bags.

the absolutle best way to get rid of pop-ups is to not intall Internet Explorer on your system.

there is a utility called LitePC (http://www.litepc.com/) which is a pre-installation utility which is loaded before the OS. It does not install ANY of the code required for IE unless you install IE from the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel.

this is the absolute best way to secure any Windows based PC not only from pop-ups but from spyware, trojans, relay agents, etc.etc.etc

Of course you have to use another browser like Netscape, etc. but it is well worth it...
