    Almost bit the dust

    True story.

Yesterday, my wife, kids and I went shopping. On the way home some jackass in the opposite (oncoming) lane lost control of his vehicle.

He came across the median, and was heading straight for us. I hit the brakes for a second, and he stared sliding sideways at us.
At the last second, I swerved and he missed us.

After we had passed by his vehicle, my wife brought up the fact that I didn't know if someone was driving next to me. In my mind, I KNEW a car was there, but decided that it might be best to side swipe him, rather than take another vehicle traveling at an excessive rate of speed head on.

Luckily, the driver next to me saw what I saw and had slowed down to give me room to move over.

I bet this dumbass missed us by less than a foot. I tried to see what his plate was, but as soon as he stopped, he peeled out and shot off again.

I was pissed beyond belief. That dipshit almost killed me, my wife and my kids. I'm still pissed.

Just ranting, and my words just don't do what happened justice. (It was worse than I am describing it). What in the hell is wrong with people nowadays?

I'm happy to know you are safe and sound. He was probably drunk.

The driver next to you deserves props for being aware enough to see what was going on. Drivers are usually just concerned about what is directly in front of them and don't care about anyone else.

Glad to hear you came out unscathed.

I figure he was drunk too, Jodi. It's a big problem out here in NM. This state still has people driving after 10 or more DWI's. Amazing, eh?

Dale, yep. He finally stopped his vehicle, then floored it and took off again. I just hope he didn't hit someone later on down the road. Just wish we would have got his license plate before he took off.

Thanks for the kind words all.

    IAB,

You are very correct. Had the driver next to me not been paying attention, chances are I wouldn't be posting this. I'm very thankful that he/she was paying attention.

I am happy I'm still around, however, that doesn't mean I cant be pissed because some idiot has no regard for others on the road.

Say a guy broke into your house and killed your wife and kids. Your neighbor, hearing screams comes and shoots him dead before he can kill you. Are you telling me you wouldn't be pissed at the guy?

Glad you and yours are okay Stickboy...

I had a friend that was killed a little while back in New York. He and his friend were walking their girlfriends home when some idiot in a stolen car came up on the sidewalk and hit him.

I dont have much tolerance for people that endanger others with their cars. If you want to go a little over the speed limit, fine... but reckless driving, DUIs... etc, you should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Either the punisher (unlikely) or his BIATCH (more likely).

    Eggs,

I agree completely. If you cannot control your vehicle (via incompetence, drugs, alcohol, etc.) and you cause an accident it should be a crime, esp when alcohol or drugs are involved.
