No problem Randy. My buddy just bought his first house. It is a real dump, so this weekend I am going over there and help him sheetrock, and do some yard work. I just hope he returns the favor when I get a house someday

Sheetrock is always fun. I had to do that a few years back on a small bathroom. It originally had paneling. The project was a complete remodel. I had to rip out the old tile shower and tear out the walls, install a marble shower pan and had the walls and new plumbing done professionally. I was sorry I did though. I found later most all the new valves on the market are junk and restrict the water flow big time. Nothing beat the pressure from the old Price Fister valve (I think that's what it was anyway). But it was nice to have one valve control the water pressure and one to control the temperature. Those are called pressure balance valves. In any case after the marble walls were installed and new shower door, it looked pretty awsome. Then outside of the shower I had to rip off all the old paneling. There was so much damn glue that it would have taken a month to scrape off so I just ripped the sheetrock out completely and installed new. Then after taping I used a hopper gun and sprayed on a knock down texture. It looked awsome. Then installed new linoleum floor , sink, vanity, lights, and exhaust fan.. I'll tell though, bathrooms have to be the toughest to do. The confined space will kill you.

Sorry didn't mean to write a book. Can you tell I like to talk about this kind of stuff

Damn, wish I could afford a marble shower... I got a new shower head the other day. Yup.. Restricted waterflow. So I took it apart, and drilled the outlet hole bigger Damn thing will blast the skin right off your face!

Haha! I never minded sheetrocking either. Its the mudding I hate I am so picky, that I have to keep going over it to make it perfect. This is why your texture idea is so great. That way you cant see any flaws(if any) in the seaming.

I thought of enlarging the shower head too years ago when they restricted the diameter of the holes. Actually they do 2 things, they install a restricter that you remove, but even then the flow is restricted. I am talking about the shower massage heads. I found that after removing the restrictor that the inners are made out of plastic.. I took a huge drill and bored through there like butter Like you say the water then blew the skin off your back . But that was old stuff. Now I am talking about the new shower valves. If you replace your old valve, it will restrict the water and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. You can drop on the same shower head and you will still find restricted flow. All the standard valves being sold through retail chains like your popular home depot, orchard supply or any of the other popular hardware retailers sell the same garbage. To get around that you have to go to a specialty store that specializes in the custom higher level stuff. Then you can get the larger diameter stuff like you could get in the old days .

Now as far as the mud, you have to learn about the different types available. The trick is knowing about hot mud. This is the stuff you buy in big bags that are stamped 5, 10, 20, 90 etc. This number is the setting time. Most don't know that. If you buy the premade stuff in the tub like most do it yourselfers buy it takes hours to set. With that stuff it takes you weeks to finish an otherwise easy job. Then like you say the knockdown hides any impurities so you don't have to work the finish like you were painting a car

Mine was steel or whatever. It suprises me, because its a cheap POS shower head. Thats good to know. I suppose when I plan on building a house(maybe never), then I will be sure to get the "good shit"

Hmm.. Its funny, because I worked for a renovation company. My boss was a fucking cheapo though. Maybe thats why I have never seen the quick drying mud. We always had the shit in the 5 gallon bucket. I will be sure to tell my buddy about this, thanks

Most definately PreMier, the saying really holds true here
"You get what you pay for."

Oh, and the quick drying mud really doesn't cost any more than the other stuff. But picking the right mud for the job really speeds things up. Especially if you have deep holes to fill, you want the quick dry stuff. If you're spraying texture the best mud is the premixed mud that comes in the box. You just have to thin it to the right consistancy by adding a little water before you spray it.
