There is a saying that goes "The more you have to do, the more you do."
Finding a job that you love is hard but well worth it even if it means compromising salary or time. I feel sorry for those that work long hours (some wall street consultants etc.) who absolutely despise what they do. (My brother was one of those working the same hours as myself and making half a million but was miserable and now works in the IT field at a far less salary.)
I work a minimum of 80 85 hours a week on a good week and probably will for the rest of my life, but I love what I do, even at 2 in the morning. I will never have holidays off, but then, so do alot of other fields of work.
I race mountain bikes and do well so I know you can combine work and keeping fit but it involves alot of creativity and compromise. For instance, I sometimes do night rides on the trail after 9:00 pm after I have put my daughter to sleep. I am not constrained by cooking, cleaning or laundry (my husband does that) and my house is a pig sty. (No, I don't hire cleaning ladies since my mom does that for a living and I would feel guilty.) And we have no TV.
Of course, I have learned to function with very little sleep.
