    Mac vs. PC

    The Office Mac fan posted:
"Being a Mac user is like being a Navy SEAL: a small, elite
group of people with access to the most sophisticated technology
in the world, who everyone calls on to get the really tough jobs
    done quickly and efficiently."

    The Office PC disciple responded
"Being a Mac user *is* like being a SEAL: a shrinking,
endangered group of animals that bark very loudly but are
harmless, who are economically valued only when they are
    dead."

It wasn't that long ago that Apple didn't even have a 1 GHz Motorolla CPU, and they were considering going elsewhere.

They have been playing catch up more than anything else, but with Jobs back they are certainly doing "well." They are pretty, but I dont think they are cutting edge in technology.

I think Macs are supposed to be better for graphic things... but since I've never used them I personally don't have an opinion about which is better.

Macs are great for graphic design. Thats about it IMO
But when you disarm them, you at once offend them by showing that you distrust them, either for cowardice or for want of loyalty, and either of these opinions breeds hatred against you.

You see that pile of hard drives, video card, etc. that for my PC's and I can buy newer and better ones anytime. You see that orange and white thing collecting dust over there it's an old Mac that needs some new parts I have to wait for another one to show up and then frankenstein it. If my PC goes down today I have 10 hard drives to swap out in a pinch. That's why I love my PC's.

Adobe is dropping some products however for MACs because sales are so low.

RISC is better for math heavy stuff like graphics, but CISC (Intel, AMD etc) have come so far over the years that they are pretty much doing everything as well or better. AMDs FPU was faster than Intels for the last couple years after absorbing/licensing some patents from DEC. But by now most software does not use the FPU so much even games, SSE and things of that nature are called upon more often. So AMDs CPUs only shined in a couple graphics apps comparitively.

Somewhere around 1996 was getting near the end for DEC and their Alpha line but back then that was the fastest crap on the planet. They had 633 MHz stuff out when Intel was fuddling around with the 233 PII. Supposedly they lost touch with the market and eventually got bought by Compaq, an almost worthless corporation except for patents at that point.

The web design "weirdos" here use MACs

One of my buddies is a MAC geek, but at the same time he is a big Linux geek. He likes MACs because there is no user involvement as far as building the machines and I guess he likes how they look.

He is more the programmer, PHP kind of guy where I am more the hardware type.

I've never had a Mac, always been PC... dont play around with my computer so much, but it is nice to have a good looking case

My brother is a big hardware fan. First thing he did after getting back from Iraq was kiss his wife. The second was to build himself a new computer. I think in that order

I prefer the PC. However Macintosh's software is unbeatable. Do Macs get virus'? I dont think so.

If you're getting viruses on your PC its because its operator sucks

Really though, people need to show a little discipline and they wouldnt be getting viruses left and right...

Brother, would you write a virus for a small market? Chances are, if some punk kid, say his name is Jessie, has a PC at home and most people have PCs who is he going to write a virus for.

Thats right, the Amiga. Why would he want to write a virus that becomes a success and makes him feel like a star when he can write a virus for, the Amiga. Then he will move on to MACs when he gets bored.

    Think about it.

And no BSD is not bulletproof, but its an excellent step for Apple to make!

Also, its a bit easier to have stable software on a box that is a comlete monopoly (Steve Jobs said NO MORE CLONES). If Microsoft made the computer and the software the feds would be crawling up their crack night and day.

macs were better for 2D graphics, but that has all changed now, i work on a mac at work and own a pc at home. What it all comes down to now is preference. But you can build a pc thats just as good as a mac for half the price of a mac. i liked it better when apple was in the shit hole everything was cheaper

28 shortly, I didn't buy it for myself back then. We had two of them... The Apple IIe should be somewhere in the attic.

I have a Vectrex from 1982 that still works, the worlds only home vector based graphics gaming system.

Thinking back to some of the stuff we had back then I sure am glad for technology and the rate of innovation that takes place in society
