I wonder if the concern is more about the KIND of jobs being generated. If I get some time later, I'll look for an article I noticed a couple of days ago which pointed out that WalMart is now the major employer in several states....so $7.50 an hour jobs, while better than none, won't help the consumer spending habits which motivate a lot of other economic factors.

I would think that as we continue the largest reconstruction investment project since World War II in Iraq, there should be some indication of at least decent support jobs being generated at home.

I did see something about India attempting to open something here as a sort of payback for the growth we've invested in their country.

Heck...besides...I thought one of those Saudi princes promised to lower oil prices so the economy would be in good shape for election day....

There topolo....my original post was in reference to this statement from Dale...that would explain my use of the more recent polling information, which indicated a strengthening in Bush's position on key campaign issues compared to polls taken several weeks ago. I wasn't talking about the third year polling analysis.

If you were, that explains why you made the statements that you thought the information wasn't true.

Thanks for the discussion about this - and for providing the Gallup link. It adds some information and perspective.

It's rather telling when group within the political party runs television ads against the President's policies. They'll be airing in Miami soon.
The fantasy here of course is thinking that Kerry could prevail head to head in any given race for any of Bush's cabinet positions against any of his staff above Janitor. Kerry’s only chance of not embarrassing himself in the national elections is to find a vice presidential candidate not afraid to sully his own reputation through association and who is a better (wo)man than himself. Given the field of available democratic choices I’d say the pickings are slim. Nader will probably have a better showing in the polls. Assuming Kerry’s supporters can figure out how to read the ballot and actually select his name from the ballot choices without stumbiling over the digital chad, at best he has a 30% chance of capturing the election. As much as I love the traditional conservative claims to superior manliness, endless and unquestionable character, gender and sexual superiority and, of course, Divine assistance, Bush would be better off if he just resigned and let the Janitor run. At least he could clean up his own messes. And maybe more of those local "moderate" Republican precinct committee people would stop leaving the Party.

You have GOT to be joking. Have you seen Bush speak publicly or debate? It is great fodder for Saturday Night Live but I in no way think he can destroy anyone with better than a 4th grade comprehension level in a debate.

As for the religious thing, the republicans are the one mixing religious and moral values, that was not fabricated by anyone.

Considering the polls show it close, unless, of course, you look at the GOP or DNC websites, I would like to know how this number was figured. Here is the latest, independent, poll which shows it close. It is 2 weeks or so old.

Dale Dale Dale... everyone knows that the polls are irrelevant. The results are never as they predict. You must realize that those that actually show up to vote and those that takes the polls are fundamentally 2 different kinds of people. Opinions are free and easy in this country. Getting off one's duff and out to vote and being capable of actually registering to vote takes effort. Kerry's supporters are of the prior variety - all takers - not givers and doers. Kerry will be nullifed and marginalized before he even gets to the natioanl debates as soon as the political advertisement machine is turned on; assuming of course he doesn't futher fracture the Deomcratic party with his own constantly flip flopping positions. I personally am counting on the Democrat's withdrawing support and not fully bankrolling his campaign and instead focusing on a few senate seats etc.

    Stirring the pot for fun...

While this is true, the pollsters tend to get a sample size large enough to counter this trend. The fact of the matter is that the only people going to the polls are partisan in either direction. The people who don't vote in the polls are the swing vote. I don't think Bush has a majority of the swing vote, especially if Iraq continues going the way it is.

The sad thing is, I think a major reason Al Qaida and the Iraq rebels are increasing resistance and terrorist attacks is to get Bush out. The problem I have is that Bush seems to be helping them get himself kicked out.

True, true, true.........there're aren't tons of $50+K/year jobs out there like all the upcoming high school grads want to waltz into. They're gonna have to WORK and EARN their way up into management positions. This is in no way an argument with your point, I'm just venting my frustrations about one of the social problems I see facing this country. Everybody thinks the government OWES them a $100K/year job. It doesn't work that way.

Don't hold my feet to the fire on this number but I'm pretty sure I remember that this type of "revenue generation" takes five years to show up on the books.

Countries actually paying us back? Wow, what a concept. (I wonder if Europe is taking notice.

A)The education system is in the crapper. Most kids graduate and are complete retards. I remember the yearafter I graduated they added 100 or 200 to everyone's SAT score starting in that year. This is not bush's fault, this is everyone's fault.

b)No country will ever pay us back, as Albob pointed out. We are like a pussy loan shark that never's cracks skulls.

I just heard this morning that Duke is going to suspend all 8am classes to help sleep deprived students. Guess what..................That's the real world!!! You think an employer will let you sleep in?? And they think that deserves 50k or more a year? I thought college was suppose to be a prep for real life?

I don't recall which state it was, but they had the teachers take the same test as the students and over 50% failed! No wonder the kids aren't learning And believe me, I'm already seeing first hand how lousy teachers are. Gripes my ass! You will probably see me in the newspaper "Local cop punches teacher and is in jail!"

I have a friend in college and I am stumped. He was writing a report for Sociology class. Despite being riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, he got a B+. He told me they don't grade for grammar. What the hell is this all about? I remember in 9th grade one of my European History teacher telling us, "Your first grammatical or spelling error, you drop one full letter grade, the second, and you fail."

Let's face it guys the country ain't what it use to be and never was. We are a bunch of over fed, over pampered, over pompous wussified tax cows. Once you figure out that you don't really have a choice or that your opinions matter it is so much easier to cope in life. The only thing that matters is "nature abhors a vacume" and what we are seeing in the world right now is nature's way of demanding a leader step up from the ranks and dominate the planet to keep it from anhiliating the species completely.

    Really stirring the pot now...
