    Isass.exe - Application Error

If you search google for the error, theres a butt load of hits. Didnt have a chance to read too deeply, but looks like a few people were saying its a trojan. Not sure though.

    I think it is!
A side-effect of the worm is for LSASS.EXE to crash, by default such a system will reboot after the crash occurs.

Unlike many recent worms, this virus does not spread via email. No user intervention is required to become infected or propagate the virus further. The worm works by instructing vulnerable systems to download and execute the viral code.

I posted earlier on another thread a comment warning about how some links that people are posting at IM take you straight to the malware/adware/Trojan equivalent of PC Hades. It took me 2 days of intense hand to hand combat and massive research to get rid of the cws.searchx (AKA CoolWebSearch) Trojan. This effect combined with the effect of the current massive internet sluggishness (Sasser worm) is killing or destabilizing a lot of people’s PCs in unpredictable ways. I’d bet that if a lot of you people here ran the free adware scanner called “ad-aware” (check out link http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=506) you would be horrified to find the number of Trojans and junkware on your PC that was installed without your knowledge or permission. Scummy people are spying on you and recording all your site activities and leaving open backdoors on your PC for anything they want to do in the future.

I picked up the cws.searchx after following one of a poster’s links at IM. It is extremely hard to kill too and some of the very brightest in the internet community are having a very hard time coming up with an easy way to automatically kill it with the scanner software. Ad-Aware will NOT kill this particular trojan permanently since it cleverly hides its “father” trojan in a super secret “hidden” file that is hard to find and hard to delete (since it literally hides from windows every time you try to reference it with directory commands etc.). It’s “father file” is also protected from deletion so you have to run special pre-boot utilities to kill it and it will automatically randomly spawn off new virus’s everytime you open a new browser; even after the scanner software kills any of its children. The trick is finding out the name of the file and that takes some cunning.

If anyone has this nasty I can give you some ideas on how to clean it – but I warn you this kind of surgery is not for the faint of heart and some resort to reinstalling their operating systems from scratch. It’s that bad.

My advise please immediately run the adaware scanner and also install a hijack protector called “spywareguard” (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html ). It will let you know immediately when something is trying to take over or hijack your browser. Also check out http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ for latest info.

Yeah the coolwebsearch changes your homepage. When I ran adaware I thought it was gone. But like OD says it re-duplicates itself until you get to the root like he says. Very aggravating....
