Ouch, I imagine that was a touch painful.

I hate those things more than anything, in Camp Lejeune NC about four guys in my platoon got bitten by one of them while we were digging our fighting holes in MCT, all ended up in the Naval hospital, one guy tried to hide it out of fear of getting dropped from the platoon, he ended up with two wounds like the one in Mudge's pic, the best way to identify them is they have a dark violin shaped design on their backs and they are a brownish yellow in color over all, and a mid sized spider, about an inch long usually, stay away from them, I was more worried about getting bit by one of those things than I was afraid of getting shot after MCT.

I've seen a similar page to that one only the bite was on someones hand and looked much freeken worse since the hand is a much smaller area then a thigh. Image such a wound on that guys thigh on someones hand. It was bloody nasty.

I've lived around these spiders most of my life. Never been biten.

Here's an interesting quote from a spider site:

One of the very real problems with recluse bites (and any arthropod bite for that matter) is that the bite causes itching, the victim scratches, introduces a secondary bacterial infection from grungy fingernails and such, a horrific wound shows up and then the wound is solely blamed on the arthropod when the real culprit is the bite victim him/herself. Additionally, besides horrific lesions being very rare in recluse bite situations, horrific recluse-induced wounds are typically found in obese people because recluse venom really melts away adipose tissue. It does very little damage in muscular tissue. This wound is on the hand of a person who does not look obese as well as the hand is not an area of the body with lots of adipose tissue in comparison to the stomach and buttocks where most of the wounds in the obese occur. So, this is one strong argument against this injury being a recluse bite and therefore, possibly having a different causative agent.
Kind of interesting that the bite doesn't affect muscle that much. Even more interesting that obese people are affected in a much worse way. Hmmm.

Ok, I know that pic had a warning on it but being deathly afraid I couldn't not look last night. Let's just say being in Canada or not, I could not sleep. I looked under my sheets, under my bed, had a friend come over and look at my ceiling fan above my bed etc....

So what you're saying is, Botox will soon be replaced by spider venom?

I've already killed a copperhead and a rattlesnake in my yard. I have no idea where they came from?
